Hi! I found a file today in the Esc. Co. Historical Society's Archives - vertical file......and Dummy me didn't make a copy to bring home with me...but it was for Wayne Co., AL - MS Territory . It was some sort of petition...was looking for something else and didn't pay that much attention to it....thought to myself that's not right...there is no Wayne Co., AL......anyway....I got home and started thinking about it .......has anyone else heard of this county....was it a possibly a petition for a county that didn't go through or something like that? OR was it a short lived county or named something else? I am definitely going back and make copies of this file. I think it will make a good record for the archives. Meanwhile, has anyone else heard of it? Hi Again! Many of you may have already received an email from Daniel McCabe, but just in case I wanted to share this with all the county cc's. This is a neat site for AL Casualties of the Korean War. The names of those who fell during this War are listed alphabetically and by county. I can't link to it from the Archive pages but plan on linking to it from my county pages! Maybe he might consider also contributing a text file to the ALGENWEB ARCHIVES??? Also, I find one of my husband's cousins listed at this site! Here is his message: ">I have posted a web page that has a fairly detailed list of all casualties of the Korean War that listed Alabama as their home of record. The page is broke down by county. This list is complete and accurate. I obtained all information for this page directly from the National Archives and the Alabama State Archives. Please visit my page and make a link to it if you like. I am currently working on page for WWI, WWII, Vietnam, and he Gulf. Thank you, Daniel R. Hello everyone. Want to share an idea that I hope will spread. A few of us VAGenWeb ccs are doing this but it would be so cool if every cc could do it. We have a Migration Pattern Project started. I have tested this for my 3 GAGenWeb Counties and my 3 VAGenWeb counties. Used my county mail lists to announce and request data. Also onsite announcements. Where I do not have lists, I posted announcements only on the sites. Below is the message I posted to Monroe Co. researchers: --------------------------------------------------------- Hi Monroe Countians. Am starting a couple of new pages on this the Monroe Co., GAGenWeb site and I need your help. It's all about ancestral Migration Patterns. Recently Linda Russell Lewis, state coordinator of VAGenWeb called to our attention a neat example of a Migrations page, Paula Wiegand's page at http://www.rootsweb.com/~vagiles/migratn.html I am doing something similar for Monroe Co. GAGenWeb; I am doing a MIGRATION OUT page and a MIGRATION IN page. I am following Paula's example with the addition of the submitter's name. I would like to have from you, the following info: 1) Name of ancestor. Surname in all caps first, then given name. 2) Name of the county where migrated from into Monroe Co. and when. Approx. time is fine, if that's all you have. 3) Name of the county to which migrated from Monroe Co. and when. Approx. time is fine, if that's all you have. A Migration IN entry might be thus: * MERRYTHWAITE, Throckmorton L., from Appleblossom Co., GA, about 1820 (Carol Middleton) The Migration OUT entry might be thus: * MERRYTHWAITE, Throckmorton L., to Frogjump Co., GA, about 1840 (Carol Middleton) The county name will be hyperlinked to that same county site in USGenWeb. The submitter's name will be hyperlinked to the submitter's email address. Other county coordinators will be starting these pages and the dream is that we can link up across the country. If y'all are interested, and I hope you are, email your info to me (my name) privately when you can gather it together. --------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------- You can see the ongoing pages on my Monroe Co., GA site at http://www.rootsweb.com/~gamonroe/mnrmgr1.html where the Intro is http://www.rootsweb.com/~gamonroe/mnrmgin1.html for Migrations IN http://www.rootsweb.com/~gamonroe/mnrmgot1.html for Migrations OUT I find that keeping it SIMPLE is the best policy. One move in / one move out. If county unknown, then the state is okay (or country). I am getting entries regularly from researchers. They feel like they are participating in the project and that is good all around. You get the idea, don't you?? Once started there is not that much to keep up with. Some nuts and bolts issues: I did go through my older queries and pulled out what I could. I also keep offline pages with links for all possible counties and states within USGenWeb Project. This took a bit of time but this way I can copy / paste the county links without having to go those sites each time. I have county links for all states south and west and of course can add more as needs arise. (Folks didn't seem to go too far off). All this done, it is now apparent that it would be lots more interesting if ALL ccs did this. That way someday a researcher might hop / skip / jump across the USGenWeb Project following the family ties, via USGenWeb Project county links (and WorldGenWeb too). What do you say?? Will you play?? BOY!!!!!! Did I ever screw up!!!!!! I really must apologize ever so deeply to Carolyn Moering. I corresponded with Carolyn waaaayyyy back in SEP of 1998 in regards to her contributing the census records she had transcribed on Jefferson Co., AL to the ALGENWEB ARCHIVES. Carolyn replied saying she had contributed one time and nothing was ever done with them and would rather have me link to them at her website. After telling her that I couldn't link to them from the archives and explaining why, she sent me the files to upload to the archives...and what do I do??????? I forget to upload them to the archives and do the same thing as what happened to her before. Boy, do I feel ever so dumb!!!! Carolyn, I do honestly apologize for my oversite and deeply thank you for contributing your hard work to the ALGENWEB ARCHIVES. The files for the following have been uploaded this morning: 1850 Jefferson Co. Mud Creek Beat, Short Creek Beat and Woods Beat. 1860 Jefferson Co.- Cahaba Valley Beat. This is one contribution that I DID NOT get uploaded in a timely manner and I apologize to all and especially Carolyn. Hi Fellow Volunteers... I want to thank "everyone" who voted in this election. I also want to commend the SE/MA Region for posting more votes than any other Region. And those of you who didn't vote, I would really like to know "why you didn't vote?" I stand here among some of the most giving people in the world, shoulder to shoulder, none above the rest. Your concerns are my concerns, your fears are my fears for I represent "you". How can I represent you if I don't hear from you? Obviously I can't. So let me hear from you. When you have a concern, throw it at me. If you are totally content with things as they are, I need to hear that too. Don't be strangers, step up and at least say "hi" A few other comments... Next time you feel like sending a "scathing" post to a list, send it to me. I won't take it personally even if you mean it that way. Maybe we can find some common ground. I always follow the rules even if I do not believe in them. So there will be no "leaks" from the Board List by me, but I will do my best to keep you informed. I will work within the system to make the process more open. But I will not allow my actions to create chaos or division. 100 votes in a region the size of ours is not a mandate. So I still need to hear from you. Keep an eye on me... Be informed... On any issues that you believe in, pro or con, let me know. I will do my best to represent "you". I believe in "YOU", all of you and I thank you for all you have done to make Free Genealogical Resources on the Internet a reality. I hope that I can live up to your and my expectations as your representative. Hi, Gang... I have to agree with the line of thinking here on queries. As your former SC, I can vouch for the fact there was a lot of confusion from our state visitors between the two sites and why there were two different places to post queries. While I do have links from Clarke County to the queries on Tracking Your Roots, I don't on Madison County and will be removing the link for Clarke County. David and Leigh have both made excellent suggestions for handling queries on your own with GenConnet and CCHelper and I would like to urge everyone to take a serious look at these two options. I can see problems continuing to arise from our visitors with "two ALGenWeb" sites, sorta speak. I've heard/seen so much good about GenConnect since it was created (maybe I'll switch over myself!). At the moment, I have my two counties on mailmerge programs at Rootsweb and have been very pleased with it, as well. BTW, Troy, any Clarke/Madison query connections sent to you, please forward them on to me. No problem. Leigh has also sent me 2 or 3 recently to be posted. My two cents...
