I wanted to bring this to the attention to Stacy and Linda also. I think they should know about this too. One of our cc's received an email asking about the slave schedules and not finding them in the census transcriptions. There are some posted in the AL archives and I replied telling the researcher about them and suggested she do a search for them in the AL archives. Off hand I know the 1850 slave schedule is posted in Conecuh Co. I haven't checked yet to see if I have the AL ones listed on the census toc, but I haven't thought about adding them to the census toc if they are not already there. Is this where they should go? Below is the reply our sc , Leigh had and since she forwarded to Kaye M. I thought Stacy would also have some imput here. Thanks! I track them pretty closely so you'll find pointers to almost all the slave, mortality and free AA schedules and censuses that've been transcribed or extracted - by the USGenWeb Census Project as well as by others - here at African American Census Schedules Online: http://www.prairiebluff.com/aacensus/ B.J. Whenever I receive a note such as the one below, I point out that the Census transcriptions in the USGenWeb Archives are done by volunteers. Only a small portion of the Census (1790-1920) has been transcribed and placed online. If someone volunteers to transcribe the slave schedules, they will be gladly accepted and placed in the Archives. It is possible that the organizers of the Census Transcription project overlooked the slave schedules when putting their indexes together. I'm copying Kay Mason, who is the coordinator for the USGenWeb Census Project. Too much information on a page can turn visitors off because they don't want to wait for the data to load. Behind my MailMerge form, I use CCHelper to organize the queries which gives me queries organized chronologically, and index by surname, and a directory of researchers. Sure beats having to do much editing on the queries. By the way, thanks to everyone for being so responsive. I'll send you guys a summary when most of the responses are in. Regards, Leigh

Hello again. Well, we go from you guys hearing nothing from me for over a month to me filling your IN-boxes in a single week. Sorry about that, but I'm frantically catching up. I received a couple of notes from County Coordinators letting me know that they had set up query pages for the county. I'll be surveying things as time permits and I really want to thank Dee Floyd-Pavey and the Web Page Quality Committee for continuing to offer assistance to the CCs. Here's the next request from me. Please send me an e-mail (or post here) your county(s), the query method you are using, and the URL of your "current queries" web page. To start things off, here's my information: Calhoun County -- RootsWeb MailMerge Form http://www.rootsweb.com/~alcalhou/newquery.html Cleburne County -- RootsWeb MailMerge Form http://www.rootsweb.com/~alclebur/newquery.html Randolph County -- RootsWeb MailMerge Form http://www.rootsweb.com/~alrandol/newquery.html Queries are automatically posted to the "newquery.html" page and then I download and merge them into a CCHelper database and upload as indexed queries. I try to take care of the merge into CCHelper once each quarter. The CCHelper pages are registered with Surname Helper, thus leading researchers to the queries when they visit the Surname Helper site. Regards, Leigh
