Greetings Butler County Researchers: Have you ever wondered why a town or community was named what it became? Now you can find out. What's in the Name is a page which will tell how the Butler County communities got their name. Also, I am going to attempt to have a Feature of the Month page. This is will devote space to a particular event that has taken place in Butler County. The featured event for the month of August, 1999 is the Greenville High School Clas of 1952 40th Reunion. I you have an article that you would like featured please scan the photo of the event to me along with complete information. I will try to feature something each month until I run out of ideas. With you help, I hope that won't happen. Happy Hunting in Butler County! Hello ALGenWeb Volunteers, Just a reminder to all of the Alabama County Coordinators. This is the last week to vote in the USGenWeb election. Voting ends July 31st. You should be voting for National Coordinator, and at-large CC Representative. If you have not received a ballot and you feel you should have; or if you are having trouble please let me know ASAP so I can try to help. Regards, Leigh Compton ALGenWeb State Coordinator
Once again I have updated the Butler County Page. I wish to thank Barbara Prestridge for helping with the background which she and I designed especially for the page. I also wish to thank Lydia Cutts for helping me find and correct several of the broken links. I am attempting to creat a page of history and photos for the communities in Butler County. I have now added links for Bolling, Georgiana and Greenville. A special thanks to Linda Bratcher McGuire for her contribution of the photos and information on the Bolling page. The Butler County Researchers' Surname List continues to grow. We now have spanned the United States from the east to the west and are now as far north as Pennsylvania. The roots of Butler County reach far and west across our nation. I am open to ideas and suggestions which will help make the Butler County page better. Hi All! I picked up the lastest "The Historical News" today and found the following information and thought it may be of interest to some. The new River Heritage Museum at the Claiborne Lock and Dam, Claiborne, AL Grand Opening will be July 24, 1999 beginning at 9 am. The Museum houses area fossils, Native American artifacts and steamboat exhibits. Doug Jones, PhD will talk with visotrs and identify fossils and Native American Artifacts. Pat Meyers will host a riverlife seminar and launch a replica steamboat; "Riverboat John" Ferguson will sing river songs; Jerry Daniel will sing blues; Blue Heron (Ferris Powell) will set up a Seminole Creek indian camp and give demostrations. For more info you can contact the Monroe County Heritage Museums at 334-575-7433. This sounds like a wonderful outing for the family and educational also! Hello all, If you've written to me and not received a reply, I do apologize. I've been offline for about a week due to a death in the family. I promise to get back to you during the weekend. I do hope that everyone is aware of the USGenWeb election which is now going on. There is only one candidate for CC-representative from our region, so there was no ballot mailed out. Everyone should have received ballots for the National Coordinator and for the representative-at-large positions. If you have *NOT* received these two ballots, please send me a note immediately. Information on the election and the candidates can be found at "election central" http://www.usgenweb.com/elections/election-central.html We've got some new volunteers and relocated county pages. I'll post details over the weekend, so watch for updates. Regards, Leigh
Hello! My friend and cousin, Bev Key in Birmingham (who is, also, a part of this list) and I have been working on this puzzle for awhile. I do not know where this is in conjuntion with HillCo, TX or DallasCO, TX. I do not know where HillCO, TX is, either. I should have already looked at a map. Notice 1) the wives' places of birth for themselves and their parents; 2) the number of 14 years Georgia was his wife after only 10 years since he was married to Clara; 3) Charles' mother's names and places of birth are different. Bev Key has a picture of someone standing in front of a business titled Ira Grantland Real Estate in Dallas Co, TX. Any and all help is tremendously appreciated. If I can ever be of assistance to you, please do NOT hesitate to let me know!! Please take care! E me at your convenience!! Your Friend in the Search, Phyllis Owen :-)
