Where would I send to get a death record for 1889 in Fayette Co. , Alabama? Would there be death records for this year? Thank You
I just want to say that I'm on a lot of lists and this one is the best. I've had so much help from people on this list.. I just wanted to say Thank you for all your help. Now , I need your help again another lookup in the 1870 FAYETTE Co. CENSUS for the following person. JOHN KELLER AGE 29 , I don't know if his wife would be listed there or not. Her name is NANCY. Thank You for any help you can give. Carol
I am new to this list , and I am searching for any information on JOHN KELLER . He was born in Germany in 1841 and died in Fayette Co , Ala in 1898.I've been told he is buried in the ZION CHURCH CEMETERY . He was married to NANCY HAULMARK. (I know nothing about her) They were married in St.Louis, Mo. June 14, 1870. Would love a Census lookup for 1880 in Fayette Co. for JOHN & NANCY KELLER. I don't have any of the children's names, or anything about Nancy . Also, would like to have a lookup in the (I think it's) ZION LUTHERN CHURCH Cemetery , to see if Nancy is there with him , and to get the info from both their graves. One more thing , where would I send for a death record for 1898?and Would there be one? Thank you for any help you can give. Carol
Chuck, this was extracted from a Tuscaloosa wills or probate or orphans court book when I was studying them in the D.A.R. I probably have the exact book noted somewhere, but it appears that genealogist Pauline Gandrud entered the following data into offical Tuscaloosa records: (the Czarina M. Aikin referred to below is my ancestor, aka Czarina M. Stewart, and C. M. Burford.) =======quote======== AIKIN PRIVATE CEMETERY On a place now (1951) owned by Louis C. Conant, about 5 miles on Greensboro road from Tuscaloosa, are some broken tombstones, now used for a sidewalk. The Conants have owned the place only a short time and the sidewalk had been there for years. Parts of three stones were taken from a family cemetery back of the place, but no one knows where the cemetery ws and we could not find it. Probably all the stones were removed and it was plowed under. We pieced the stones together with the following results. Copied 1950 by Pauline Jones Gandrud: Sacred to the memory of ROBERT AIKIN who was born in State of Pennsylvania March 13th 1760 and departed this life May 26th 1827 He was a whig Soldier in the war living and dying without reproach (the above stone in 3 pieces) Erected to the memory of MARGARET JULIA ANN AIKIN who was born in Chester District South Carolina January 15th 1800 and departed this lief (stone broken through date but thin that is right) after a series of afflictions Septpember 22nd 1834 She bore the chastening of Providence with exemplary fortitude and died in Christian hope Blessed are they that mourn for they shall be comforted Matt. v 4 (stone in 3 pieces) In memory of John Franklin Aikin infant son of James L.G. Aikin and Czarina M. Aikin who was born June 22nd 1836 and departed this life November 23rd of the same year aged 5 months (verse) stone in 2 pieces =-=-=-=-=-=-=unquote=--=-=-=-= Thank you Mrs Gandrud! What you had the foresight to do paid dividends to me forty years later in the 1990s! because Czarina M. Aikin is my Great Great Great Grandfather, Solomon B. Stewart's daughter! Fyi, after James L.G. Aiken died, she married a Leonard Mitchell Burford from Wilcox County. He died too, and Czarina is buried next to her mother and sisters in Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Scooba, Kemper County, Mississippi. Dick Stewart PS: =-==-==-=-for the TN and AL folks, Czarina Stewart was born in either LCT, or Marion Co, AL. for the Mississippi folks, Czarina and hubby James L.G. Aiken lived next to parents Solomon B. and Sarah C. Stewart in Kemper Co or Leake Co, I don't remember which . For the Fayette AL folks, Solomon had land in Marion / Fayette, and I would bet you a dollar he may have been one of the reasons Glen Allen was originally known as Stewart's Gap. He had land there as well. =--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=trail of email=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -----Original Message----- From: Chuck Gerdau <cgerdau@uronramp.net> To: Dick Stewart <rmstewart@excelonline.com> Date: Friday, September 24, 1999 10:08 PM Subject: Re: [ALTUSCAL-L] More Cemeteries Online - Hi Nope I dont have that one. Rootsweb has added "Post-ems," a memo/explanatory space to the Social Security Death Index found at <http://ssdi.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ssdi.cgi> When you access the Social Security Death Index through Rootsweb, you may post additions and corrections to index. You also may view what others have posted. This is a good place to add: maiden name spouse marriage date and place names of parents place of death date and place of burial names of children places of residence You may also provide correct information about dates of birth or death when the SSDI data is not correct. This also provides a link to you for others who are researching your family. Hello, I didn't realize I had so much mail stacked up, as I just ran across your posting My ancestor, Samuel A. Crawford, was in the CSA 38th Infantry, Co., F. along with two brothers (see below). I have a picture that appears to be part of the Crawford family and one man in a Confederate uniform. This picture was not labeled, but I feel fairly certain that this man was one of the Crawford sons. I would appreciate any information you have on the Crawfords (have compiled Service record on one or two). Could you see if there were any Ponder men in the regiment? Thank you. Diane P.S. This is a brief summary of the information that I had been able to locate on Samuel A. Crawford and the 38th. "On December 31, 1862, Samuel, a 24 yr.old, became a private in the Confederate 38th Infantry Co.F. According to Samuel's Confederate records he received $44.00 on May 3, 1863, for service from December 31, 1862, to April 30, 1863. He received this payment while a patient in the General Hospital. No other confederate service was indicated. His brothers, William Lindsey age 23, and James Dobbins about age 21, were also listed as part of this company. This regiment was organized in May of 1862 in Mobile, AL with the following commanders during the service of the Crawford brothers: Gen. Slaughter, Gen. Cummings, after transfer to Braggs army, Gen. Clayton. Before their service ended sometime in 1863, the brothers would only have been in one real battle on June 24, 1863, at Hoover's Gap, where the regiment came "out almost unscathed". " >From the notes sections on Samuel Porter. Writer, Diane S. Hopmann. Quote from Confederate Military History p.175, Katherine Linemann Library, St. Charles, MO. [Sorry, that this is an incomplete citation of my source] Other source would be the compiled service record of Samuel A. Crawford, 38th Infantry, CSA, Co.F photocopied and sent to me by the National Archives in Washington D.C.
What's the latest status on those Fayette County cem books?
