in reference to the timeframe you list, Mike, - my GGG Grandfather, Solomon B. Stewart died in that window, and - his 'afflicted' son died within six months of that. - this was in near Carthage, Mississippi. - Solomon had created his will only months before his death - fyi, but probably not related, -- they were in Marion/Fayette Co, AL in the early 1820s, along with the other relatives/Stewarts that rolled into that area then. -- mid/late 1820s was Tuscaloosa Co, AL -- early 1830s was Perry Co, AL -- then moved to Kemper Co, MS -- in 1848 moved to Carthage MD to a plantation -- died on the plantation 1852 Definitely interested. I am researching the following families in Walker and Fayette Counties: Kilgore, Earnest, Smallwood, Clements, Thacker, Handley, Kimbrell, Willcutt, Williams Melinda PJMJU@prodigy.net
My GGG-Grandparents were Thomas LEE and Elizabeth C. STRONG BINION. Thomas was born ca. 1799 in Georgia and Elizabeth C. STRONG was born 07-16-1804 in Georgia. Elizabeth C. STRONG was the daughter of William M. STRONG, and grand-daughter of Johnson STRONG. All of whom ended up in Fayette Co., AL around 1820. Elizabeth C. STRONG married first on 08-24-1820, to William BINION, Jr. They had 2 children: Christopher B. BINION b. 09-20-1822 and Jane Elizabeth BINION b. 11-12-1823. Unfortunately, William BINION Jr. was killed in a gunfight on the streets of Tuscaloosa, on 05-17-1823. This was about 6 months prior to the birth of his daughter. Elizabeth C. STRONG BINION then married my GGG-Grandfather, Thomas LEE, on 12-22-1825. We presume this was in Tuscaloosa, Co., although we can find no marriage license. These dates are all recorded in the Family Bible of Elizabeth Strong Lee. They had 11 children together, all born in Tuscaloosa: 1. William Henry LEE b. 10-22-1826 d. 09-24-1864 Lt. in 7th Texas Cavalry Co. G. CSA resigned in 1862 due to health reasons; Deacon in the Waverly Masonic Lodge (Walker Co., Tx) - 1860 2. Margaret G. LEE b. 03-26-1848 Christopher B. BINION had moved to Mississippi by 1843. No further Info on him. Jane Elizabeth BINION married William R. SMITH on 11-23-1843. Their only child, Sydney Binion SMITH, was born 09-16-1844, at the home of Thomas LEE in Tuscaloosa. Jane Elizabeth BINION SMITH died a short time later, on 04-03-1845. Thomas and Elizabeth, along with their children moved to Southeast Texas around 1853. They settled in the part of Walker County that later became San Jacinto County. Thomas LEE had 2 older siblings living very near him in Tuscaloosa. They were Lewis and Harriett LEE. This is the info I have on these 2 families: Harriett LEE married Willis RICHARDS 04-27-1814 in Clarke Co., Ga. They had the following children all born in Tuscaloosa, AL: Minerva J. RICHARDS b. ca. 1820 AL d. 1862, AL m. William B. WINTER Wiley RICHARDS b. ca. 1831 AL James RICHARDS married Fatima STANLEY Tilmon RICHARDS b. ca. 1827 AL Mahala RICHARDS b. ca. 1833 married Hugh W. STANLEY Sarah K LEE b.1836 Elizabeth LEE b.1842 Ransom LEE b. 1835 d. after 1863 served in Alabama CSA Thomas M. LEE b. 1847 married Mollie UTLEY - ------------------------------------- Elizabeth STRONG (my ggg-grandmother) was an heir to William M. Strong, his LWT dated:November, 1861 - Fayette Co., AL The other heirs include A. M. PREWIT (husband of Temperance), Mary TARVER, Green H. STRONG, Benjamin W. STRONG, Thomas L. WILLINGHAM (husband of Susan), heirs of Jacob J. and Elizabeth G. STRONG to wit: William W. STRONG, Travis G. STRONG, John H. STRONG, L. W. CHRISTIAN (husband of Susan D.), E. W. Jennings (husband of Maranda J.). As you can see there are MANY collateral lines of early Tuscaloosa/Fayette Counties families that I am researching. My goal, at this point, is to find the parents of Thomas, Lewis and Harriett LEE. I am also trying to find out how Willis RICHARDS (husband of Harriett LEE) is related to the other RICHARDS families in the Fayette/Tuscaloosa areas of Alabama. I would be very interested in finding any descendents of the above named people. It would be great to compare notes! My cousins and I have managed to piece together quite an assortment of various items concerning our GGG-Grandparents Thomas and Elizabeth. They include their Family Bible, a picture of them, Letters dated 1863 and 1868. We would love to find some of our other extended family! I'm sorry for the length of this message...but I think the more info I can furnish...the more likely someone will recognize these people. Thanks in advance for any feedback!
