    1. [ALFAYETT] Marriage Records - Pre 1865
    2. Myra Eakin
    3. I understand the marriage records for Fayette Co., AL were probably destroyed when the courthouse burned in 1865. I am trying to find the marriage date for my GG Grandparents, Robert Cleveland Rector and Mary Elizabeth Russell. Their first child (I believe), David Rufus "Dave" Rector was born 12/19/1858. They lived in Vernon, AL (now Lamar Co.). Can anyone suggest another method for finding the date? Are there other documents which would include this? 1. [ALFAYETT] Kilgores
    2. Although, I originally sent this message to Joseph, I am hoping others out there may be searching the same Kilgores. If so, I would love to hear from you. Maybe, I you can help solve my brick wall. Hello Joseph, I may be researching some of the same Kilgores as you. I have a James Robert Kilgore who married Rebecca Wyers. He had a first born son, James Robert Kilgore (7 Jul 1884 - 28 Feb 1962), who married Kate McNutt (2 Feb 1886 - 28 July 1947) on 10 Aug 1905 in Cordova, Walker Co., AL. Legion has it that that this family went to OK and returned to Walker County. It is not know when they left or when they returned, but they did return. Hope some of these names ring a bell with you. Davine Subj: [ALWALKER] Kilgore/Hutto Date: 5/11/00 11:31:49 PM Eastern Daylight Time From: harriman@coserv.net (Joseph Harriman) To: ALWALKER-L@rootsweb.com Hi, I am going nuts here. Maybe someone can help me. I found James Kilgore, married to a Mary, in the 1850 census for Walker County. I have found several sights and pages that give her maiden name as Hutto. I have also found a Hutto in the 1850 census with a daughter the right age. They(Isaac and Mary) were both born in South Carolina and were in Ala at least by 1843 or 44. My reason, they had Isaac, age 7, who was born in ALA. (that puts his birth in 43 or 44) They also had Wiley, age 5, John, age 4 and Jane age 1. Now my question is does anyone have the documents to prove this Mary was Mary Hutto? Everyone I ask say their source say this is true. Then when I go to the "source" they tell me their "source" tell them it is true,, as so on. I am going nuts trying to prove or disprove this name. The earliest entry I have found for this information is from a dbaker on Ancestry.com, but the email is not a good one now. I have email several web pages that have this information and no one can tell me how they got it Do ANY of you know? I am going nuts! I also found out James father may have been George Kilgore from an inquiry I made to a web page. "George Kilgore, b. 1805 GA. Moved to walker Co. He would have to be your James father. Unless your James moved into Walker Co. much later. Another thing could be James is from another wife of George, before moving to AL. he md. Hettie (Hetty) Clemmons b. 1808 TN. It shows their first born was 1826" The ages and years are right. Does anyone have any information on George Kilgore? Thanks for letting me air my thoughts, and Carol, please don't let this list go! I know it is a lot of work, but the resources that are pooled together here are wonderful! I would hate to lose them! I know I am new to the list, but you guys sure are a great bunch of people! Carol

    1. [ALFAYETT] James M. BUTLER
    2. I am sending my brick wall out again. I am trying to separate two James M. BUTLERs who were born in Elbert Co. GA 1811-1813, lived in Shelby and Coosa Co. AL until about 1850. One of them is James Madison Butler who died in 1855 in Shelby Co. AL. The other James M. BUTLER moved to Walker Co. AL and then to Decatur Co. TN and lived until at least 1891. These two people have such similar information that I am having great difficulty separating the two. If you are researching James M. BUTLER or even James BUTLER in these counties, please contact me at jerryb8779@aol.com so that we can compare notes. Thanks, Jerry

    2. I am looking for any information on the son of Elijah Howell Sr. named Elias. He was born in the part of Fayette Co. that is now Lamar co., near Kennedy. One bit of info is that he was murdered. Another is that he was murdered in Texas. I cannot confirm either situation. If this is my ancestor, I have more data to share. Bill Howell

    1. [ALFAYETT] McDONALD/BISHOP/ELMORE in AL
    2. Monya Havekost
    3. Hi, I'm trying to straighten out the relationship, if any, between the ELMORE, BISHOP and McDONALD families of Fayette, Marion and Tuscaloosa counties in AL. I've been told by family that my ancestors are Mary BISHOP b. 1842 SC, who married William Byrd McDONALD, b. 1841 AL. Both died in Winfield, Marion Co. AL. However, I find a marriage in the Fayette Co. AL Marriage book for W. B. McDONALD to Mary ELLMORE, 27 Nov 1870, in the house of Barney BISHOP. One cousin says that Barney BISHOP is Mary's father. Another relative says that her maiden name is ELMORE, not BISHOP. I'm trying to determine if Mary BISHOP perhaps was first married to an ELLMORE and her second marriage was to W. B. McDONALD or if this Fayette Co. marriage is a different W. B. McDONALD and not my direct ancestor. I find ELMOREs and BISHOPs in all three of the above mentioned counties. Both an ELMORE and BISHOP family have daughters named Mary who werre born in SC. Any help appreciated. Best regards, Monya Havekost Fayette Co.
