Who knows why the name change.? One idea of mine is that it was about the same time Jessie James was about, and James'middle name was Jesse and he and Mary also named a son born in 1878 Jesse. I can understand a last name change but a first and middle? He(James/Chester) died in 1883,so I'm pretty sure it's all the same guy.My problem lies in finding his parents. The search continues.
