Presumably I, too, descend from Alexanders reputedly from Stirling, Scotland via Ireland. The family story is that "John Alexander sailed from Belfast in 1818, coming up the St. Lawrence with two brothers, Robert and Thomas. Robert proceeded to New York, Thomas to Virginia. John and Thomas corresponded until proir to the Civil War in 1860 when John became indignant at Thomas' suggestion that they exchange a certain number of slaves for a number of cows....A descendant of John Alexander, Earl of Stirling, the Estate, including Stirling Castle, reverted to the Crown following purblication of an adverisement in a Montral paper for John and brothers." (all this from records my grandfather passed down - no luck so far finding the elusive newspaper ad, John's parents, or where he was born in Ireland). My line is through John (b. 12 Feb 1787 Ireland, m. Elizabeth McCullough b. abt 1797 in Ireland). John died 15 Sep 1862 in Louisville, St. Lawrence, NY. Alexander women married Corrigan, Mein, Stafford, Riley. Wives of Alexanders include Tryon, Vernoy, Everts, Hurd. Most lived in NY, VT. I wonder if your lines connect with Robert or Thomas?
