John Vinson Alexander was my great-grandfather and he lived with his wife and 12 children in the Western Tennessee in the Henderson & Madison County area. His father was Harvey M. Alexander and his mother was Melinda Jane Mainord (from the large family in the area that also spelled their surname Maynard). John Vinson was born on July 14th, 1889 and he died on May 3rd, 1956. He married Kate Francis Karnodle. She was born on March 15th, 1893 and she died on December 23rd, 1972. They were married on October 17th, 1909 in the city of Ranger in Madison County, Tennessee. I don't know much of anything about many of my cousins. Apart from my grandfather's descendants and one of his brother's descendants, I have never really met any of my relatives except for a few minutes at a time perhaps. I'm 28-years-old right now. I had my chances to go to a reunion here and there in the past when I heard about them, but I never thought at that time about how important family - the extended family - truly is. Now I'm not able to get in touch with anybody because, frankly, it seems that none of my other family members are interested in genealogy (they don't make their presence known online, which is frustrating). Here are John Vinson Alexander & Kate Francis Karnodle's children. If any of these names are your relatives, I'd really appreciate it: Lee Roy Franklin b. 1910 d. 1992 (my grandfather) Lacy McLellan b. 1912 d. 1982 Laura Cumie b. 1914 Paul Dudley b. 1916 Jesse Willard b. 1918 Truman Cleo b. 1920 d. 1990 (my grandfather's brother that I knew) William Daniel b. 1922 Francis Louise b. 1924 Robert Calvin b.1926 John Vinson, Jr. b. 1928 Billy Joe Richard Eugene b. 1930 Howard Lynn b. 1932 Right now, I am finding interesting information about other sides of my family. I'm learning about the Lewis family of Southern Georgia and the fact that in 200 years, they've spawned enough children to fill a professional football stadium (give or take a few thousand maybe). I'm also learning about the Mainords/Maynards and their arguments over how their surname is spelled or the brickwall they've hit. I've hit a brickwall too and I'd love to learn more information about the Alexanders of Western Tennessee. I know there are many still around, but I can only hope that they visit Ancestry.com too. Sorry for the long email...I write a lot when I'm tired. Please let me know if you can help (with the family tree - not me being tired). I have a good amount of information that I can definitely share. Thanks!
