James Gibson Alexander was born on 4 Jul 1851 in Dalry, Ayrshire, Scotland.4 He died on 8 Dec 1925 in Branchport, Yates, New York.4 Yup, they are. These guys are easy to research aren't they. I would have liked to have met James Gibson Alexander. He was born in Dalry, Ayrshire, Scotland and imigrated when he was 15. The youngest of a large family. He played the violin in the streets of NYC for money [begger?]. Penn Yan was a saloon town back then and he probably got a job singing and playing the fiddle there. He was a farmer, school teacher, auctioneer, square dance caller besides the fiddle playing. Their farm was near Branchport. I have copies of his citizenship papers where he lied about his age before a judge and signed the citizenship papers. Later in his life he came clean on his age which fits with the Ayrshire census data....Paul Household Record 1880 United States Census Name Relation Marital Status Gender Race Age Birthplace Occupation Father's Birthplace Mother's Birthplace James ALEXANDER Self M Male W 29 SCOT Farmer SCOT SCOT Sarah ALEXANDER Wife M Female W 24 NY Keeping House NY NY Source Information: Census Place Jerusalem, Yates, New York; Family History Library Film 1254949 ; NA Film Number T9-0949; Page Number 406A James Gibson Alexander and Sarah Lydia Paddock were married before 1880.
