Thank you Gail for the additional details on this family. After reading your post I took a quick look at the 1850 census to understand the origins of the family living in Belmont Co., Ohio -- James Alexander was born abt. 1806 in Ohio, wife Elizabeth (McGregor) was born abt. 1806 in Maryland and their children were all born in Ohio. Now I know that the known Pennsylvania connection was the McConkey family not this particular group of Alexanders although there were Alexanders in early Lancaster/York Co. PA. It gets oh so confusing because the Alexanders repeat the same (common) given names throughout the generations until it begins to lose all possibility of being helpful to connect to previous family members! Nope, then there is a mistake along the way... James Alexander had property in Fawn Twp., York Co. His land bordered Thomas Kilgore's land in Fawn Twp. This James sold his property and went to OH about the same time [1800 ish]Thomas K.'s brother, Matthew Kilgore went to Belmont Co., OH. I have the map of the connecting properties. The date of the map in May 1786. I am not sure but I don't think we found out if this James was married. I just thought they were one and the same as James went to Belmont Co. We also thought that this James maybe the brother of the John/Jean Alexander as their son Humphrey also went to Belmont Co., OH at the same time. Steve if I messed this up.. please correct me.. Gail
