Dr. Isaac Alexander, son of Lt. Col. Abraham Alexander (the Signer) and Dorcas (Wilson) Alexander, was born 5 Dec 1757 in Frederick Co., MD. He came with his parents to Mecklenburg Co., NC a few years later. He is said to have married 4 times. 1st to a woman named [Unk.] Reese, no children. Then on 18 May 1775 he married Catherine Orr. They had two children, Albert B. Alexander, b. 1 Oct 1776 (died young), and Amelia Alexander, b. 5 Apr 1781. She married William Adamson. After Catherine's death, Isaac next married on 14 Dec 1788 Margaret Brisbane Smith, dau of William Brisbane and Margaret Stewart, widow of John Smith (and mother of Maria 'Elizabeth Smith who married Henry Dana Ward). Isaac & Margaret had no children. After her death Isaac married once again on 15 Jul 1807 to Sarah Thornton and they had 2 children, Henry Dana Ward Alexander, b. 19 Jun 1810 (who married Mary White Alexander), and Isaac Brownfield Alexander, b. 28 Jan 1812, (who married Elizabeth Margaret Gilman). Dr. Isaac Alexander died in Camden, SC on 13 Jan 1812, he last child being born a couple of weeks after his death. Isaac Alexander was a physician. In 1777 he was president of Queen's College/Queen's Museum (also called Liberty Hill) in Charlotte, Mecklenburg co., NC. Some of the trustees at that time were Abraham Alexander(his father), John McKnitt Alexander (his father's first cousin), Dr. Ephraim Brevard (his 3rd cousin), Thomas Polk, Thomas Reese (possibly his father-in-law or brother-in-law), and Waightstill Avery. During the war he moved to Camden and was present in his position as a physician at the Battle of Camden and rendered great service to the fallen commander Baron Von Kalb. He died 13 Jan 1812 in Camden and was buried in the Old Presbyterian Church Cemetery. If you'd like more on him on his line, just let me know.
