    3. I keep seeing the name John McKnitt Alexander. I have seen that same name in the old Camden District a.k.a. the old Sumter District. Does anyone know about this man? Not being able to tie him in with my SC Alexanders, he's been a mystery to me. Here's what I really have Jane McKintt and Abigail McKnitt were sisters, daughters of John McKnitt, Sr. (b. Dublin, Ireland). Abigail married Joseph (Org 7) Jane married Andrew (Org 7) [John McKnitt, Jr., b. 1665, was their brother] Jane & Andrew produced Elias. Abigail & Joseph produced Sophie. Unfortunately I haven't figured out whether Jand & Abagail both married Joseph. 2. John McKnitt Alexander is a part of the Alexanders who settled in Mecklenburg County NC at an early time -- prior to the Revolution. His family were first in Maryland and Pennsylvania I believe -- maybe Delaware as well. The family, including John McKnitt Alexander, is well documented in a typewritten manuscript housed in the Carolina Room of the Mecklenburg County (NC) Public Library. It was prepared by a man named Stafford and is often called the "Stafford Manuscript". It is some 200-300 pages long. By the way, one member of this family, Hezikiah Alexander, built a stone house in Mecklenburg County -- one of the first stone houses to be built. The house (which is in excellent condition) along with its spring house is a focal point for the Charlotte History Museum. The several Alexanders who lived in Mecklenburg County just prior to the Revolution are identified as signers -- perhaps writers as well -- of the Mecklenburg Declaration, a document that preceded the Decla ration of Independence. A copy of the document does not appear to have survived but it is referenced in some contemporary writings of the time. You may want to contact the Carolina Room at the Mecklenburg Public Library to see if they could make copies of the pages regarding John McKnitt Alexander and his descendants. I am not sure that they will, but it may be worth a request.
