Just a note of caution for anyone using manuscripts or publications presented by other researchers - please make sure to verify the claims made in those works! Although the "Stafford Manuscript" aka "Alexander Notebooks", compiled and researched by Dr. Alvah Stafford, edited by Paul Rowland, indexed by James Ballagh Moore (printed 1985) is a great guide - it does contain errors! For example Stafford includes as children of Elias Alexander of PA - William born 1704 died 1772 and Elias born 1746 died 1818. Primary documents prove, without a doubt, that both William & Elias Jr. (sons of Elias and brothers of Jedediah, etc.) died by 1754 in PA. I am sure that 20 years ago Stafford (and other researchers) made the best use of the documents available to him - but genealogy - like any interest must be continually updated to reflect new information. > The family, including John McKnitt Alexander, is >well documented in a typewritten manuscript housed in the Carolina >Room of the Mecklenburg County (NC) Public Library. It was prepared >by a man named Stafford and is often called the "Stafford >Manuscript". It is some 200-300 pages long. > > >
