I have a Robert James Alexander who was born near Edinburgh in 1799 or 1800 and died in 1852. He married Mary Middleton and among their children were Mary Eliza (1833 - 1911) who married James Harris (I don't know what happened after that, if they had children, etc.)and Hannah Maria Alexander (1850-1886) who married George Crew. These people were in Kent or Essex township, Ontario at the time of Hannah Maria's marriage to George. Her mother, Hannah, married as her second husband, Richard Ellards Crew (George's father -- his second wife as well, having been first married to Ann/Hannah Slater)in 1856 in Detroit, Michigan (at that time it was very common for people in Essex or Kent county to go there to be married).
