I have this info about them. Port Stranraer 16th May 1774 on board the "Gale" of Whitehaven Henry Jefferson Master for N.Y. in N. America. With description of their age, quality, occupation, employment, former residence,on what account and for what purpose they leave the country. 1729 Hugh Alexander 45 Carpenter - Wigtownshire - from Galloway to NY. purpose- Land so high not able to make a living. 1744 Agnes Alexander 30 Wife 1764 John Alexander 10 1764 Ann Alexander 10 1767 Hugh Alexander 7 1769 Alexander Alexander 5 1771 James Alexander 3 1773/74 Robert Alexander 1 First wife, Abbey, must have died after the birth of the twins. Second wife came to America. She was 15 years younger than Hugh. My GGGGrandfather was John Alexander who was born around 1764 but we are not sure exactly when or where. We know he was in Philadelphia, PA in the 1790s. Had a son, William, in 1796. John was a carpenter according to Phila. street directories. Many John Alexanders came to America back then and I am still looking for proof of which one was my ancestor. I hope some of this info might help you. If you have any ancestors that were in Philadelphia or know anything about the John Alexander, son of Hugh, who was on the ship list, I would appreciate it if you would share that information with me. Thank you, Joan
