    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Alexander, Nichols Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/gV.2ADEB/3934.1.1 Message Board Post: I am so glad to "meet" you, Nicole! Your grandfather, Nick, is my cousin. I haven't had any contact with him since I was a small child. (Very long story.) One of my half-brothers, Bill, was the family historian and somehow kept up with all of us. Since he passed away, it has been hard to keep track - he wasn't too good at record keeping in any organized fashion. Martha Amanda's last name was Nichols. Her family was from the Mobile area, and from what I was told, was quite well-to-do. I had not heard that she was Cherokee or adopted, and as much as Bill and my father Richard L. talked about her, I am sure something would have been mentioned. I do know for sure that she was not G-Granpa Richard M.'s first wife. I think where the Cherokee comes in is that the family thinks that his First wife was Cherokee. They believe he had a second wife, who was from Cuba and died in Florida, but we haven't been able to find any proof of this. Martha Amanda is buried next to Richard M. in the Old Handsboro Cemetary just out side of Gulfport, MS. Several family members are buried there. I have been trying, but have been unable to find out how the cemetary came through Katherine. My father is buried there also, and the cemetary sits right on a bayou, so I am worried about it. I have not been in a position to travel and see for myself. Please feel free to email me directly and we can chat more. I have lots of pictures of various family members that I will be glad to share with you. It's so exciting to find another member of the family! All the very best, Elizabeth
