Craig -- For what it's worth, My Joseph Alexander also came to east Georgia by way of Virginia, shortly after your William. Joseph Alexander's Descendants lived near some Shackelford's in Wilkes and Oglethorpe Co, Ga. and sold land to the Shackelford's.. I wonder , could there be a connection..? look at my web page. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~blackston/rob.htm regards, Robert Alexander Calera, Alabama Craig Alexander <cwalex87@yahoo.com> wrote: I descend from William Alexander who moved from Virginia to Elbert County, Georgia, in the mid-1770's. He married first Frankie Rucker and second Nancy Shackelford. I am pretty confident in this ancestor based on his will and other documentation. I am not so confident on his father. I think his father was the James Alexander (maybe s/o Archibald Alexander) that you mention below. I have also seen the birth date problem if 1722 is correct. I would also appreciate any information on this family. Thanks, Craig Alexander cwalex87@yahoo.com PVergilius@aol.com wrote: This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Do you have any information to help me resolve a problem with a supposed son named James by his first wife, Margaret Parks? I am descended from a James Alexander, father of George (b. 1754), father of Sarah (b. c. 1780) who married Robert Taliaferro Gaines, and this James is often said to be a son of Archibald and Margaret Parks Alexander. Yet I have doubts about the information I've seen posted on the Internet concerning this James. Some genealogies do not list him at all among the children of Archibald and Margaret Parks Alexander. Others list him, but assign him a birth year of 1722, when his mother was only ten years old! A very few list him with a birth year of 1736. And those genealogies that include him often list the month, date, and year of birth of each of Archibald's other children, but for this James they give only the year. I once thought that he might be the son of Archibald and his second wife, but that James was born much too late to be the father of the 1754 George. I also have wondered whether he might be a son of one of Archibald's brothers, or possibly an illegitimate son of Archibald himself. I would appreciate your help in solving this problem.
