    3. Robert, I will come back to your website later to look at more details. On first glance, I don't see an obvious connection, but it may be there. Your Elijah lived in Cleburne Co, Alabama, for a few years. I grew up in Cleburne County (in Heflin). I am not aware of any other Alexander's in Cleburne at this time. From my database, here is what I have on William Alexander: b 5 June 1759, Culpeper County, Virginia d 14 Dec 1805, Elbert County, Virginia m1 Frances "Frankie" Rucker, 27 Aug 1782, in Culpeper County, Virginia m2 Nancy Shackleford, abt 1765, Elbert County, Georgia (d/o Henry Shackleford) They married in Virginia in 1782, so I guess they came to Georgia later. They apparently came with a group that formed Coldwater Methodist Episcopal Church just north of Elberton. I have seen the church and the historical marker in front of it. William had a brother named George that came to Georgia with him. I have seen the graves on George and his wife Mary. (I have photos.) I never found William's grave when I was up there. Of course, Elbert County was created from Wilkes County in 1790, so records of William show up in either county. I have copies of William's will and subsequent returns. I got them from the Elbert County Probate office. William's son Willis moved to Monroe County, Ga. His son N.O. (Newdigate) lived in Butts and Jasper Counties. His son Robert lived in Jasper County. My grandfather, Henry, moved from Jasper Co to Coweta County just after my dad was born. I grew up in Cleburne County, Alabama. I now live just outside Augusta, Ga, in Columbia County. Let me know if any of the above information rings a bell with you. Thanks, Craig Robert Alexander <robbalex1963@yahoo.com> wrote: Craig -- For what it's worth, My Joseph Alexander also came to east Georgia by way of Virginia, shortly after your William. Joseph Alexander's Descendants lived near some Shackelford's in Wilkes and Oglethorpe Co, Ga. and sold land to the Shackelford's.. I wonder , could there be a connection..? look at my web page. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~blackston/rob.htm regards, Robert Alexander Calera, Alabama Craig Alexander wrote: I descend from William Alexander who moved from Virginia to Elbert County, Georgia, in the mid-1770's. He married first Frankie Rucker and second Nancy Shackelford. I am pretty confident in this ancestor based on his will and other documentation. I am not so confident on his father. I think his father was the James Alexander (maybe s/o Archibald Alexander) that you mention below. I have also seen the birth date problem if 1722 is correct. I would also appreciate any information on this family. Thanks, Craig Alexander cwalex87@yahoo.com PVergilius@aol.com wrote: This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Do you have any information to help me resolve a problem with a supposed son named James by his first wife, Margaret Parks? I am descended from a James Alexander, father of George (b. 1754), father of Sarah (b. c. 1780) who married Robert Taliaferro Gaines, and this James is often said to be a son of Archibald and Margaret Parks Alexander. Yet I have doubts about the information I've seen posted on the Internet concerning this James. Some genealogies do not list him at all among the children of Archibald and Margaret Parks Alexander. Others list him, but assign him a birth year of 1722, when his mother was only ten years old! A very few list him with a birth year of 1736. And those genealogies that include him often list the month, date, and year of birth of each of Archibald's other children, but for this James they give only the year. I once thought that he might be the son of Archibald and his second wife, but that James was born much too late to be the father of the 1754 George. I also have wondered whether he might be a son of one of Archibald's brothers, or possibly an illegitimate son of Archibald himself. I would appreciate your help in solving this problem.
