I am trying to ascertain the parents of the James Alexander who married Elizabeth Reid. James and Elizabeth were the parents of George Alexander, whose daughter Sarah married Robert Taliaferro Gaines. Many genealogies give the parents of James as Archibald Alexander and Margaret Parks, but have him born when Margaret would have been only ten years old. The James born to Archibald and Jane McClure cannot be the father of George Alexander because he was born after George was born. Yes, it is curious that you have an Alexander-Gaines marriage among your forebears. Do you know the ancestry of Cordelia Gaines? Who knows but that we may be distant cousins!
