    1. F. P. "Tamoh/Tama" Alexander McClain
    2. Hello List, I have an old photograph of Tama and her son, Garland B. McClain. Tama's husband was George Franklin McClain b April 12, 1873 (I think in Texas). Tama was born in July 1775 in Louisiana. Garland was born in Feb. 1900 in Coryell Co., Texas. I believe Tama's father was Evan Alexander. Our family line goes back to Louis James Alexander of Bienville Parish, Louisiana. Does anyone know how he and Evan connect? What does F. P. stand for in Tama's name? I would appreciate any info on this family. Thanks, Shirley

    1. ALEXANDER, NANCY W/O GEO SPENCER
    2. George W. SPENCER         BIO Montgomery County, Indiana Portrait & Biographical Record of Montgomery, Parke & Fountain Counties, Indiana (Chapman Brothers, 1893) p 271 George W. SPENCER is a prominent farmer of Greene Township, Parke County, his home being on Sec. 10. He was born on the old homstead Feb 12, 1840 and is a son of John Spencer whose birth occurred in Maryland about 1793. The latter was a son of James, also a native of Maryland. When he was 2, he removed to Fleming Co, Ky., and in 1835 came to Indiana, settling 1/2 miles E. of the place on which he soon after located and there resided until his death. His wife before her marriage was Mary GOTT. John Spencer was next to the eldest of a family of 4 sons and two daughters. He was reared in Fleming Co, Ky where he lived until 1835 when he came to Indiana. The previous year he had married Miss Nancy ALEXANDER who was a daughter of James Alexander, a native of NC and early settler in Mason Co, Ky from where he later removed to Fleming Co, in the same state. The two brothers of Mrs. Nancy Spencer served in the War of 1812. After his marriage John Spencer engaged in farming and in 1834, coming to Parke Co. he became the owner of the farm now carried on by our subject. Only a few acres had been cleared at that time but with energy and undaunted courage he pursued the work of its improvement. He was called to his final rest on 9 April 1867. His family consisted of 11 children, one of which died in childhood. The following are yet living: Mary E, wife of Milton ROBERTSON, living near Winterset, Iowa; Martha Jane, wife of Greenbery McDUFFY of Union County, Iowa; Amanda, widow of Robert BLOOMFIELD; Edna, wife of David PATTON, who lives SW of Crawfordsville, Montgomery County; and our subject. The mother of these children, who was born Nov 28, 1801, is still living, though so advanced in years and makes her home with our subject. Her mind is clear and health is remarkably good. Her husband was a Democrat, politically, and as a farmer successfully carried on his 200 acres of land. George W. Spencer was bought up in Green Township, and was educated in the public schools. On August 22, 1862, he took unto himself a wife in the person of Miss Mary CLARK. ---------------------------------------------------- I have no further info on this. Phyllis

    3. Hello Stephennie, Sorry to take so long to respond to your posting regarding Robert, Henry, etc. Alexanders found in Lancaster & York Co. PA - but I am not actively working on my Alexanders right now and needed to search my files for some the PA records I had noted. My interest is Henry Alexander found in Frederick Co. Maryland records in the mid 1700s. I had discovered that the name Henry Alexander appears in the Lancaster/York Co. PA records and I know that much of Frederick Co. MD was populated by former PA residents so I tried to document some of the early groups found in PA. The records I used were just transcribed abstracts so must not be accepted as 100% accurate - but I usually wait until I know there is a definite connection before I begin ordering full record copies. I would be glad to discuss any of the notes I list below but would appreciate documentation to be quoted if an item/connection is disputed. It wouldn't surpise me if some of our families belonged to both. <G> I've decided to request death records for my Adolphe PAPIN and Jane nee MCCOUCHIN from the Cheboygan County Clerk. I know they are buried at Calvary Catholic Cemetery and their (7) children also died in Cheboygan. I'm hoping the death records will move my research along successfully. I also contacted the Archives of Cheboygan for naturalization records but they don't have the records for Cheboygan circa 1879-1885. So I need to contact the county clerk about that, too. It's a work in progress but we're getting there. Carol California/USA

Are you getting individual emails? We are now 280 strong on this mail list. Gail On 3/31/06, pgibbs1@webtv.net <pgibbs1@webtv.net> wrote: > > Hi, I am new to the list and I have two questions. > 1. Ontario there were a bunch of McEachens that were Catholic. We think my Alexander McE was a soldier that was sent with a group of men to Canada. I could never find out where Alexander was from. I recognize your names from Cheboygan. And yes I recognized your name from my research for you. I think the McEachens in Lanark Co were names Samuel McE and his children. According to Scottish info our McEs were a sept of Macdonald of Clanranald. Also maybe from S. Uist island.
