James Melvin Alexander was the son of Thomas Alexander [1788-KY] and Rachel Pryor [1797 - TN]. Does anyone know the dates of birth and death, and place of burial for THOMAS ALEXANDER who married MYRA E. LEWIS? If he is NOT the son of James Melvin Alexander and Rebecca Johnston -- then can you please tell me who his parents were? I am very interested in your documentation. Also interested in finding out why some postings have Martin Gardner of Beatie Co. North Carolina as Elizabeth/ Sarah Osceola's step father. How does this work? His will is on the Net, but it just adds more questions I will believe Mrs. Walker may have married a Gardner/Gardiner but if they stayed in N.C. how did Sarah O. get from California to Canada then down to Cumberland Co. Pennsylvania so she could hook up with Robert Reed and have Rosey who had all these Alexander babies?????? Eleven years and still questions.....I'm missing something. Smiles, D.

    2. Rod or Leslie
    3. Recently received the death certificate of William Henry Sterrett born 1850 who listed his parents as Henry Sterrett and Catharine Alexander. Online information lists the husband of Catharine Alexander as Benjamin Harrison Sterrett. The children listed included William Sterrett but the birth date is listed as 1847 or 48. Catharine's middle name is listed as Madison. Is this a middle name or a prior marriage name? Was told as a child that the family was related to THE Madisons, Monroes, and Jacksons - still looking for how. Would appreciate any information on this marriage and the correct information of who Catharine Alexander or which Catharine Alexander was married to which Sterrett. Leslie aeriehollow@ellijay.com

So is Joyce Corum your cousin. I talked to her a few years ago. Let's take this off the boards and talk. I found Charles B.'s grave a couple of years ago. Interestingly, he bought the whole plot and he is the only one in a very, very sought after cemetery and the keeper asked if we wanted to sell the plots. Have you seen the bio on Charles B. Alexander (Col) Jr. I put it up on the Cooper County Genweb along with an article I found in the newspapers from there. Altho' I am from Northern California I now live near Cooper County Missouri (came where while looking at family graves) I have also figured out the whole deal about who exactly is Charles B. Alexander (not exactly what Joyce found altho' I am sure she is a great archeologist).

    3. I find the family of John Reed enumerated in the 1870 Census of Hardin Co., TN. He has a daughter Margaret age 3. In the adjacent household is James Alexander and family: 1870 Census, Hardin Co., TN 099 James Alexander 26 TN farmer, 3rd C. D. Bernettia 32 AL Emma 9 AL William 8 AL Minerva 8/12 TN Do you think that John Alexander might be John William? I checked the 1860 census for Alexanders in Hardin County and do not find a James Alexander age 16. From the above census, it appears that this family may have been in AL in 1860? 2. Mike, Go to _www.rootsweb.com_ (http://www.rootsweb.com) and click on Family Trees. Enter Alexander, John Taylor and Sr. is listed there. There are a lot of Living Alexanders listed, which, as you probably know, means their names are being kept private. However, all the listings for Sr. have email addresses for contact. Happy Hunting.
