Jacob & Serepta Shelby parents of Penina Shelby (b) 1813, (m) 1830 to Henry Toulson and had 7 children. The youngest child Victoria A Toulson, my great great grandmother, was born in 1848. Her father died in 1850 and her mother was left with the family to raise. James, her brother, (m) 1854 to Louisa B LeVever and together they raised Victoria with their children. I have searched through census over and over again. Found a census with Penina living with Victoria & her 2nd husband. Have copies of Victoria's divorce papers with 1st husband Alfred Hughlett and it mentions her mother in them. This is what I have found, but no parents for Serepta. I'm looking for any information on Edson "Ed" Blakesley I can find. My g-grandfather, Edson Blakesley married Harriet "Hattie" Jane Alexander 30 Sep 1883 in Nodaway Co. MO. (Book A page 321) (Hattie Alexander was 16 at the time of this marriage. I assume Ed was around 18 to 22) Ed Blakesley died on March 12, 1888 of TB ( Nodaway Democrat wkly newspaper) Ed's mother's name was Lyda or Lydia. (deceased aunt's notes) Ed and Hattie had two children, one still-born or died within a year and my grandmother, Iva Edson Blakesley (deceased aunt's notes, Iva' obit) Hattie's parents were Richard Alexander and Mary Jane Rivers. (deceased aunt's notes) Hattie married Agustus "Gus" Miller, 8 Apr 1891 (Book C page 81 Nodaway Co. MO.) Iva married my grandfather Claud Alexander Greenlee, 12 Mar 1908 (Book G page 158, Nodaway Co. MO. ) I assume Edson Blakeley was about 25 at the time of his death. I do not know where he died nor where he is buried. He had worked as a "meat salesman"/butcher and had worked for a railroad. The Nodaway Democrat says he died of "consumption". Pat Greenlee lylejohn@sbcglobal.net

Is there a Linthicum in Your Past? Thomas Francis Linthicum, SR (2/23/1716 – 2/10/1807 MD) and Elizabeth Williams (5/1/1724 MD -??) had sons: Richard Linthicum (2/9/1745 MD – 1819 NC) Note 1 And Thomas Francis Linthicum, JR (?? -??) Note 2 Available evidence indicates that one of the above two Linthicums (Note 3) took 3 sons and 3 daughters to North Carolina in the late 1780’s. Ref. B indicates they were Betsy (Elizabeth) Thomas, Daniel, Sr., Richard, Peggy, & Polly. The surnames resulting from the marriages of the descendents of these seven individuals number over 50 within 4 generations and span many states. My hope is that at least one of these unions resulted in a family that had the means and the interest to trace and record their family histories and passed it on to their descendents. I have every reason to believe that my line comes from Daniel, Sr.’s son John W. Linthicum and his son William A. Linthicum but hard facts in institutional documents are difficult to come by. I would appreciate the opportunity to share information with anyone who has any information, whatsoever, on these Linthicums who migrated from Maryland to the Guilford Co., NC area in the late 1780’s or early 1790’s. Terry L. Linthicum 3700 S. Westport AVE, #1958 Sioux Falls, SD 57106 fayrankin@juno.com Note 1) Estate settled in Guilford County, NC in 1819. This and other evidence would indicate that Richard did not die in 1759 as indicated in “The Linthicum Family of Anne Arrundell Co., MD and Branches” as published in Maryland Historical Magazine, Vol XXV, No. 3, pp 275-283, Sept 1930. (Ref. A) Note 2) Thomas Francis Linthicum, JR. is not mentioned at all in Ref. A. In Matilda Badger’s book, “The Genealogy of the Linthicum and Allied Families (Ref B), there are no dates for any life event and no wife is shown for this individual. Note 3) The answer to this question is another subject in itself but given the paucity of information on Thomas Francis Linthicum, Jr. and the total lack of any evidence of his presence in NC, one would not be unjustified in questioning Ms. Badger’s statement on p78 of Ref B., “Thomas Francis Linthicum, Jr., (From p12) according to tradition, received a cool reception from his Tory wife upon his return from fighting in the Revolutionary War.; forthwith he took his three sons and three daughters to North Carolina---“. It should also be noted that the above Richard Linthicum (1745-1819) is said to have married Mary Sherwood (3/31/1753 MD –1/1/1790??). Their daughter Elizabeth (1774 MD- 1834 NC) appears to be one and the same as the Betsy in the six kids someone brought to NC. Mary was the brother of Daniel Sherwood III who married Richard’s cousin Frances Linthicum. Daniel Sherwood III sold his Maryland property and moved to Guilford! Co., NC during this same time period. A Daniel Sherwood and a Richard Linthicum are shown being close neighbors in Guilford County, NC in the 1790 Federal Census much as a Richard Linkom and a Daniel Sherwood are shown as living in the same area in the 1776 Maryland Census of Talbot Co.
