Looking for the maiden name of the wife of Newdigate O Alexander. Census records list her as Martha S Alexander. I am trying to find out what the "S" stands for. Newdigate was b 22 Aug 1836 (probably Monroe County, Georgia), d 24 May 1885 in Butts County, Georgia. Martha was b 8 Sep 1839 and d 29 Oct 1919. Newdigate is in Monroe County, Georgia in the 1850 census in the home of his father Willis Alexander. The 1860 and 1870 census records show him in Jasper County. He fought with the Glover Guards from Jasper County for the Confederacy. The 1880 census has him in Butts County. He is sometimes listed as "Nudigat" or "Newton" or "N.O." Any help with Newdigate's wife's maiden name and/or more information on Newdigate will be greatly appreciated. I'm wondering if anybody knows any other information on Anguish Alexander born in Lancaster, Virginia. Please let me know. I'm mostly interested in historical stories and would also like to know more about his ancestors.
