His first wife, Eleanor Murdock, died in Walnut Hills, Fayette Co, KY in 1793. He remarried to an Eleanor Campbell and had three more children. After, 1801, he moved to Fleming Co, KY with his son James. Roland died there in Sept. 1818. The son James moved on to Parks Co, IN. I do not have a daughter named Margaret for either of them but most information I have on the family came from others.I am not familiar with the location of KY counties but wondered if this could be a connection.

    1. [ALEXANDER] Notification of Death of Ephraim Alexander, b. abt. 1811, N. C.
    2. Doris Edmonds
    3. Provided herein is a quoted copy of notification to Marshall County, AL of the death of my G. G. Grandfather, Ephraim Alexander, b. abt. 1811, N. C., who had lived in Marshall County, AL for many years and who died while visiting family in TX about 1895. Ephraim came to Marshall County, AL from N. C. before the 1840 U. S. Census of Marshall County, AL was taken. He was picked up -- along with all other family members -- in that 1840 Census of Marshall County (by number of males and females by "range of age" only) in the Household of his Father, my G. G. G. Grandfather, John Anthony Alexander. My John Anthony Alexander was born abt. 1771 or 1772 in N. C. He sold land in Washington County, N. C. in 1834 (see Rootsweb document of Washington, N. C. Alexander/Spruill deeds at http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/nc/washington/deeds/sprudeed.txt before coming to Marshall County, AL). (Cut and paste hyperlink into your Browser address.) (See Griffin File G-818-1834 on that Web Site.) That deed showed the names of all Alexander family members having an legal interest in that land (Anthony; Ephraim; William; Osters (Ostin/Austin) and Valentine (Twin brothers); Mary; Nancy; Penelope; and Rebecca). The 1850 U. S. Census of Marshall County showed 4 Households and families of Alexanders: (1) John Anthony, (2) Ephraim, (3) William, and (4) Franklin. Those 4 Households in Marshall County, AL in 1850 (broken out by name, age, birthplace, etc., of each individual) contained all Alexander names that were listed on the sale (by John Anthony Alexander) in 1834 of that land in Washington County, N. C. The following data on the Death in Texas of Ephraim Alexander on January 25, 1896 was found on January 22, 2007 on Microfilm in the Guntersville, AL Public Library and was extracted from the 13 February 1896 publication of "The Democrat" newspaper in Guntersville, Marshall County, AL, quote: "Died in Texas: "The following is from the Mesquite (Texas) Herald, mailed to us by Rev. R. L. Phelps, who also formerly lived in Marshall County, AL. Mr. Alexander was Clack Ragsdale's father-in-law. "Ephraim Alexander, an old gentleman who came here from Union Grove, AL, a few months ago, died at the residence of Mr. Ragsdale, in the Long Creek settlement on Saturday 25th. His remains were interred in the cemetery at this place at 10 o'clock Monday morning, Rev. R. L. Phelps conducting the funeral service." First, can any descendant of this Ephraim Alexander (1) tell me in what Cemetery, in what city of TX, that Ephraim was buried, (2) send me a description of the location (within that Cemetery) where his grave can be found, and/or, if possible, (3) send me a photograph of his headstone? Second, can any descendant of either this Ephraim Alexander or this John Anthony Alexander tell me the Mother of Ephraim, the Mother and Father of John Anthony Alexander, the Grandparents, Great Grandparents, etc., of John Anthony Alexander? I would like to fill in missing data to get back from my John Anthony Alexander, b. 1771 or 1772, in N. C. to the first Anthony Alexander b. in Scotland in 1663, who came to N. C. before 1700 with his Wife, Ann; his Son, Anthony; and one servant, Johathan Mason (reference the book many years ago by Virginia Alexander and others on Alexander Kin). I would be forever grateful for anyone who could help me find any of this data on my missing Alexander ancestors, gravestones, and photographs! If you descended from this Ephraim and/or John Anthony Alexander, please e-mail me! I would like to share the information that I have on Alexanders. Thanks --- Doris Cooley Edmonds 345 Warrenton Shores Drive Guntersville, AL 35976-6132 Phone: 256-582-2530 E-Mail Address: 256-582-2530

    1. [ALEXANDER] Fw: ALEXANDER Digest, Vol 2, Issue 16
    2. Doris Edmonds
    3. Hi Gerry, Provided below is Page 227 of the 1850 U. S. Census, PA, Montgomery County, Norristown Upper Ward (U. Ward Borough of Norristown), taken on the Sixteenth day of August 1850. It shows a William and Margarett Alexander with 12 children -- including Thompson L. Alexander, 20 years old, a Mason, b. in Maryland (estimated Birth Year 1830). For your fast knowledge and use, detailed family member data is provided. Just lately, in other states, I have found some Alexander descendants of my G. G. Grandfather, Ephraim Alexander, b. N. C. abt. 1811 (son of John Anthony Alexander, b. N. C. abt. 1771 or 1772 who came to Marshall County, AL from Washington County, N. C. during the 1830s). (If you know anything about either of these Alexanders b. in N. C., please tell me.) That contact gave me the date and place of death for Ephraim who, for "a few months," had been visiting his Daughter, Margaret Jane (Alexander) and her husband P. C. "Clack" Ragsdale (and their family) in Long Creek settlement of the Mesquite, TX area. Another son, John A. Alexander (who drew a military Pension for a few months before his death), was also living in Titus, TX. Because of "the connecting with" that Alexander cousin (where they saw my post on an Alexander forum), I have found out that he died around Mesquite, TX on 25 January 1896. A notice of his death had been provided to Marshall County, AL where he had lived most of his life since before the 1840 U. S. Census. I know how happy it made me to find that date and location of Ephraim Alexander's death that allowed me, just yesterday, to find an Obituary in our 13 February 1896 Newspaper "The Democrat" in Marshall County, AL. Therefore, I just wanted to take time to pass to you this information in my possession about this Thompson L. Alexander -- just in case he is yours that you are missing from the 1850 Census! Here is the detailed data from the 1850 U. S. Census of Norristown Upper Ward, Montgomery, PA: Lines 8 through 21, of Dwelling 97, Family 97: NAME: William Alexander 46 M Machinist Penn. Margarett " 45 F None " George K. " 21 M Cotton Delaware Thompson L. " 20 M Mason Maryland Egbert G. " 18 M " " Wesley " 17 M Cotton " Rebecca J. " 14 F " " Levi " 12 M None " Susannah Catharine " 10 F " " (Note: This name was initially entered as Susannah B. Alexander but then Catharine "with a ditto for Alexander" was entered "in the same line 16" and the B appears to have been "lined through" without entering another age; therefore, I am not sure whether the Census Taker meant to record "one person" 10 years old or "two people" who were both 10 years old!) Samuel B. " 9 M " " Mary E. " 7 F " " Hannah A. " 5 F " " William A. " 3 M " " Sarah E. " 1 F " " I hope this data helps you as much as making a contact in TX helped me! I recommend that you get a subscription from Ancestry.com for access to their on-line file of all U. S. Census records as well as Census records from England, Ireland, Scotland, etc. Have a good day! May God Bless and Keep You and Your Family as you continue searching for your ancestors!
