I am a descendent of Allen Ulysses Alexander and up until recently my family always believed that he came from Scotland. Now we know about James Alexander and Rosanna Chambers, but we're stuck. Thanks, Nicole
Edna and Nicole, I am trying to find out more information on James Alexander (born 22 Sept 1797 in Kinnell, Angus, Scotland). He had an older sister named Clementina (born 25 May 1787) . Their parents were Robert Alexander and Jean Mill. My GGGrandmother, Sarah Alexander and daughter, Clementina, were living alone in Barbour County, AL, in 1850. Often children are named after members of their family. I know it is a long shot, but the birthdate of James is close to Sarah's birthdate. The unusual name of Clementina is my only connection. Do you have any information that I might need? Chris K. Land, Pensacola
Ito would like any info you have on the Alexanders from Scotland Thanks, Edna -----Original Message----- From: alexander-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:alexander-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of gc-gateway@rootsweb.com Sent: Monday, February 19, 2007 7:07 AM To: ALEXANDER-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [ALEXANDER] Alexander Family Tree....originated in UlsterIreland This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. The mother Mary Ann was nee WALKER. The daughter Mary Ann married James ALEXANDER in Kensington, London, 1868 while both working in service (he a butler/gardener, her a lady's maid). Robert BRUNTON was son of Payne, who in turn was son of John. My research comes from a reliable source, but I haven't double checked it all, especially that prior to the 1837 registration. This BRUNTON family went on to have many more children, but only the daughters survived to adulthood; thus ends this BRUNTON line. Hope this helps! Good luck. Send me an email and I'll put you in touch with my "cousin" who has researched this family name more extensively. Jill :c) Vancouver CANADA jilliocity@hotmail.com

His wife's name was Martha Amanda Nichols - her family was supposed to be quite prominent in the Mobile area. They are both buried in the Old Handsboro cemetary outside of Gulfport, MS. He had two or possibly three wives, according to family history. His first wife is reported to be Cherokee. Martha Amanda was not. There are some apochryphal storied that he had a second wife who was Cuban and they lived in Florida for a while - we've never been able to prove it. My father was Richard Lincoln Alexander, and my mother was his second wife, Clara McNish. I have varying amount of family history and photos that I inherited from my half-brother William Maxwell Alexander. Which of Richard Melton's children are you descended from? When I was a small child we visited a lot with Dad's brother and sister, and I have a lot of memories of that time. I don't promise to remember you, as I was very young, but maybe we can share some st! ories.
