    2. Connie Shotts1
    3. Craig, I am interested in your Alexander ties to Augusta County VA. I have documented proof of my earliest Alexander ancestor, James, as a resident of Augusta County Virginia as early as 1751. He and his wife Rachel remained residents there until after the 1785 marriage of their son William Alexander to Agnes Brewster, daughter of James and Eleanor (Williamson) Brewster of Rockingham County Virginia. (The Brewsters lived in that part of Rockingham County that was formed from Augusta County.) Between 1785 and 1790, the Brewsters and the Alexanders (James and William) with their wives and children and other related families including the Dunns, Irwins and Campbells, moved to Fayette and Jessamine Counties KY. William Alexander died in Fayette County KY in 1818, leaving a will naming his wife and children. His wife, Agnes (Brewster) Alexander moved then with several of her adult children and their families to Monroe County IN. At least two of Agnes' sisters and their families also moved to Monroe County IN between about 1810 and 1820. I believe that James Alexander's father was William Alexander and his mother was Martha ?, based on land records in Augusta County Virginia. William Alexander died about 1751 in Augusta County VA, leaving his lands to his wife Martha. It appears that James had a brother named John, also derived from land records. I also believe that William Alexander, the father of James Alexander, lived in Pennsylvania, probably in the Lancaster County area, prior to moving to Augusta County VA. I do not know when he came to America, but it was prior to 1750. I also do not know where this line of Alexanders came from but it may have been northern Ireland as the Brewsters and Dunns who intermarried with them came from somewhere near Coleraine in County Derry. Do you have any idea if there is a connection between the Alexanders I have named and your Thomas Alexander? I would be happy to share information and documentation that I have. Unfortunately, we do not have any direct living male descendants of this Alexander line for DNA testing. Sincerely, Connie -----Original Message----- From: alexander-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:alexander-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Craig Alexander Sent: Monday, April 09, 2007 9:23 PM To: ALEXANDER-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [ALEXANDER] DNA I am interested in the DNA project, but I have not yet convinced myself to spend the money. I believe my line is from Thomas Alexander who emigrated to Pennsylvania in 1736. He and his children moved to "The Valley" in western Virginia a few years later (Augusta County, Rockbridge County, etc.) My line then came to Georgia during the Revolutionary War (specifically William Alexander.) I am pretty confident in my line up to William Alexander. I am less confident of his parentage. Thus, my interest in the DNA project. Chris, would you want to post a note on the rootsweb (Alexander-L forum) concerning the connection of the Cecil County/Mecklenburg NC Alexanders. It appears from DNA that we are Rib haplotype and the Earl of Stirling line as well as the MacAlisters of Tarbert are Ria haplotype. I understand that haplotype puts people in a sort of "family" and if you are of differing haplotypes---then not closely related. There are many Alexanders who have belived us to be connected to the MacAlisters of Tarbert or the Stirling line, so they should be interested in that finding. James B. married Ida Florence Smith Sept. 15, 1881 in Wilson County, Texas. Ida was born in Seguin, Gonzales County, Texas on June 14, 1859. We think James' Dad is John H Alexander but really don't have much info to back it up. Is this album the same Alexanders? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
