Since I can't get over our brick wall I can't help but have something nagging at me. My husbands late aunt told me that her grandfather told her that he had a lot of relation in the south. This could have been the southern Kilgores or it could have meant the southern Alexanders. With knowledge readily available that a lot of the Alexanders moved into the southern states from the states of MD & PA this could possibly be why I can't break that wall down. Maybe part of the family moved and part stayed in PA I am looking in both York & Lancaster and not eliminating Chester Co. I got some very interesting information in the last couple off days and I need to sort though this information and see if I can piece it in. I was graciously sent a complete book of burials in cemeteries in Drumore Twp., Lancaster Co., PA. Noreen, are you getting my emails??? I haven't heard back from you on getting DNA from your brother. Author: primero1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.alexander/6192.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Here is what I have on the Seven Brothers/Two Sisters. I wrote this in 1998 to include with information to distribute to my family members: Many years ago, when I started on this quest for the Family History of Alexanders, I was fortunate enough to speak with Charles "Webb" Alexander. He was born in 1915 in Lawrence County, Alabama, the son of Pruitt Webster Alexander and Bessie O. Hefner. Webb had a vivid memory of years past, perhaps even a photographic memory. Webb related to me that as a child, his most enjoyable times were the visits to his cousins home, Jake Alexander Jr.; they were about two years apart in age and enjoyed doing the same things. They would listen to the elders talking about the 'good old days' while sitting around the fireplace in the evenings. This was 1925 when Webb was about 10 years old, him and Jake Jr. were inseparable, scrambling about in the woods, fishing or just being boys together. One of the stories that Webb remembered so vividly was the story about the 7 brothers who came from Scotland, via Ireland in the early days. The story was that the 7 Alexander brothers had been promised land when they finished doing battle for the King of Scotland, the King refused to give them the land. The brothers then tried to overthrow the King and were banished from Scotland, hence their removal to Ulster, Ireland. After considerable research and with this story always in the back of my mind, I have come to the conclusion that Webb Alexander would have had no way of knowing about the "documented" evidence of the 7 Alexander brothers when he related it to me in 1976. One of the 'old timers' in the family had to have told the story, perhaps at one of the fireside chats that Webb so vividly remembered. Webb recalled that the names of some of the 7 brothers were: William, Samuel, John and James. The 7 Alexander brothers (as well as two sisters) came to Somerset County, Maryland from Ireland in 1670(some documents say 1679) on the ship "Welcome." Their names were William, Andrew, Elizabeth, James, Francis, Samuel, Joseph, John, and Jane Alexander. The following pages will document the validity of this legend handed down in our family over the years. I am sure that the story has been changed and embellished with the telling of it through the years, however, I believe, based on the facts put together with the documentation, that this is the true beginning of our Alexander connections to times' past. Webb mentioned a family Bible that belonged to T. Rile Alexander that he remembered seeing at his Aunt Minnie Mae and T. Rile Alexander's house. There was also a diary that told the story of the 7 Alexander brothers. This belonged to T. Rile Alexander's father, Thomas Jefferson Alexander. Webb recalled that one of his cousins, T. Rile Alexander's son had "gone off to school and became a doctor and that he had moved to North Carolina." Also, that a town had been named for him in North Carolina, he thought it might have been Thomasville. After much research, I was able to locate the doctor in Thomasville, North Carolina. He was Dr. George Thomas Alexander, son of T. Rile Alexander. I corresponded with the family for many years and was able to complete the line on T. Rile Alexander's family. Dr. Alexander's daughter in law provided me with copies from T. Rile's family bible along with photos of T. Rile and his first spouse, Malissa O. Mann. The search for the diary pro! ved fruitless. My ggggrandfather was James Alexander m. to Kitty Walker Alexander. James b. 1770-1772 in Chester Co, PA. He and his family moved to Rowan Co, NC where he grew up. His father was James Alexander also. Kitty was from Iredell Co, NC...They moved to Lawrence Co, AL in 1819 from Lincoln Co TN where they had resided few years. ....James died in 1851 in Lawrence Co, AL where he and Kitty raised 10 children. When Kitty died [in 1823] he married Elizabeth Sheffield and had 4 children. Would love to share any and all info. JAne's parents were supposedly William McCord (born in Derry, PA) and Mary Irvin. >From the limited info that I can confirm, George Alexander was still in PA until 1748 when Samuel was born. I have George and his son Samuel in Randolph County in 1788. By 1790 George is not listed on the Census and may be deceased. According to online family trees George was rumored to be born in Ulster, Ireland around 1715, Samuel was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania around 1756, and maaried a Sarah Dennis from Center, Guilford, North Carolina where her parents, Thomas and ELizabeth lived. Thomas was born in Randolph, NC around 1795. There were other Alexanders listed in Randolph county (James, Stephen, William Sr, William jr) on the 1790 Census. The family (Samuel, Sarah, and Thomas) eventually moved to Owen County, Indiana possibly through Kentucky. By 1818/1820, they appeared on the Owen County tax rolls and census pages. Sarah died in about 1830 and Samuel died in about 1832; both in Gosport, Owen Co. Thomas married Mary Ann Morris From there, Thomas migrated with his in-laws Richard and Catherine Morris to Coles, Illinois.Specifically I am looking for verified information about them in NC or earlier and for information about how they got from NC to IN.
