Author: RogAlexander Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.alexander/6198.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: missaribel, We are involved in the Alexander DNA project. We have at least 2 members with roots in Ontario about this time but their direct lines do not mention your people. Our project is growing at a rate of about 2 new members a week, so it would be wise for you to consider yDNA testing if you know of a male with the Alexander surname who is willing to take the test, in case you do not fit this category. DNA testing enables you to hopefully locate others with similar DNA's so you can share info and research efforts. I personally am doing this now. It has been very helpful when you are stuck in determining ancestors. We will be glad to explain further if you wish. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: paynengineering Surnames: Hendricks/Hendrix, Barnes, Benson, Payne Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.alexander/721.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My Grandmother was Francis M. Hendricks (Hendrix). Francis M. was the daughter of Lorenzo Dow Hendricks and Katie Benson Barnes. Katie was married to James William (Little Bill) Barnes just after the War of Northern Aggression. He was killed by white people in Crowder, Choctaw Nation, I.T. in 1880, whereupon Katie married Lorenzo Dow Hendricks in 1881, in Brooken, Choctaw Nation, I.T. It seems that Lorenzo Dow Hendricks served in Company "G", 29th Texas Cavalry, having enlisted in Paris, Lamar County, Texas in 1861 and having served "for the duration" of the war. I find most interesting that W. Barnes (James William Barnes always went by the name William Barnes) ALSO enlisted in Paris, Lamar County, Texas and ALSO served in Company "G", 29th Texas Cavalry. These fellows must have been very good friends who enlisted together and, after the war, went home to Crowder, Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory, and, after the murder of James William Barnes, Lorenzo Dow Hendricks, himself being single, he married Katie. Katie had three ch! ildren by this time, children of James William Barnes (when these children had children, one of these grandkids of Katie was named after Lorenzo Dow Hendricks, the child being named Lorenzo Dow Barnes). The Barnes's and Hendricks's families also came out of Mississippi (where Katie, James William AND Lorenzo were born). Most likely they were neighbors in the Old Choctaw Nation, East, and came up from there to the New Choctaw Nation, together, on the Choctaw Trail of Tears. Anyway, I have had trouble coming up with Katie's and Lorenzo's mothers and fathers, etc. I have found loads of documentation on James William Barnes's family (documentation concerning tribal membership, hearings before the Commissioner of Indian Affairs, Federal Court testimony from friends, family, etc., concerning degree of Choctaw blood, etc.). And, it only stands to reason that there would be such documentation about Katie and Lorenzo, also. If anyone has such info, I would appreciate it. Thanks, Larry Payne son of Howard Payne son of Francis M. Hendricks daughter of Katie Benson Barnes Hendricks/Hendrix Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Hmm...thats odd my kids are related to the Alexander and Browns from their Dads father's side. They are Chickasaw Indian and were sent to OK then some of them moved to Ark ,where they received land and then to Franklin County MO. -------Original Message------- From: mitchellcass@MSN.com Date: 4/30/2007 11:19:09 PM To: Gail Kilgore; Alexander Subject: [ALEXANDER] Half sister Hi Gail I did find my 1/2 sister Sharon in Missouri. She is a talent agent in Branson. Anyway, she was given up also but adopted within her birth fathers family. Her mother was told about the Alexander children. There were two occasions she looked up Sharon over the years and I wonder if she also peeked in on Mike and I. Anyway, I have absolutely found out I do not look anything like her Brown side, or her family. We evidently favor Edward and his family and we certainly are nothing like her personality-wise either as I spoke with Sharon's birth father at length. I found him first. Sharon had some pictures I truly could never have guessed or picked her out of a group to be related in any way to us. No resemblance in any way. Sharon looks nothing like me and her children and grandchildren look nothing like us. You would never guess any connection. I think that surprised me. So I think we look a lot Alexander". So it is very slow, but some info from that success of finding Sharon. All Brown info though. My nephew is doing the DNA 37 point test for Alexander info. I was to order it last weekend but I just got home last night after a hospital ordeal with my daughter. She is still experiencing those disabling migraines. So I'm doing it today. It's so great to hear from you Gail! I have not been on here much lately due to work demands. Been too wiped out by end of day to do much. With my grandson living here also, and my father I moved here from Missouri, I'm not as free and breezy as I used to be when it was just me and the dog! It's sure never dull! Thanks again for the note, and don't be a stranger - or any of you Alexanders out there!
