I presume you have searched message boards for Jesse and Greenup also? About DNA testing, about 15 of our testers are surrogates who have no interest in genealogy but have been kind enough to scrape the inside of the cheek for someone who is interested in their common genealogy. The sponsor is usually female as you can imagine though not always in my experience. (I am presuming the two males you refer to are direct male heirs to Jesse, i.e. they have the Alexander surname?) The sponsor orders the test kit with credit card online to be mailed directly to the surrogate. Once the surrogate returns the kit, postage prepaid by the testing company, the surrogate is out of the picture if desired. The sponsor is then the "owner" of that DNA sample, and gets regular email updates of results and matches, etc. Make sure you order through the Alexander DNA Project at FTDNA because there is substantial monetary savings. It takes about 8 weeks to get the results, and the cost of the appropriate test is $191 through the Project. If you would like to see a listing of our lineages and DNA "families", please write me at roger.alexander@fkilogistex.com. Not the news I'd hoped for, but I appreciate your reply. Yes, I have considered DNA testing but unfortunately, I only know of two male decendents of this man, and unfortunately, I haven't spoken to either in at least a decade--and one in more than three. At this point I'm uncomfortable asking. It would be different if it came to proving or disproving a particular path, but at this point I feel like it would be a shot in the dark. Right now I'm trying to compare the 1830 and 1840 censuses as Jesse was born in NC after 1830 while his brother was born before 1840 in KY. Once I've narrowed my list of possible fathers I'll try looking into wills. Any other suggestions? Penny Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Hi Craig; I was surprised when I turned out to be a J2. I also had anticipated something like E or R. I wish I could help you, but I can't even help myself over my Brickwall. My lineage to my brickwall can be seen in the attachment. I am the first on the list. Larry Larry R. I am looking for the parent's of William Alexander who was born in Culpeper County, Virginia, and died in Elbert County, Georgia. I have previously posted to the list, but so far I have not got much further. I recently received the results from a 37 marker DNA test. This test places me in haplogroup E3b. I was expecting something more along the lines of R1b1. I have had no matches in the Alexander DNA project. I am going to post my results to ysearch.org to see if I get any matches there. I would especially like to hear from any other E3b Alexanders. I am confident in my line as noted below: - Me - My father - My grandfather - Robert Watson Alexander (30 Mar 1860 - 23 Sep 1915) m. Mattie E. Blackwell. Born in Butts County, Georgia. Lived and died in Jasper County, Georgia. - Newdigate O. (N.O.) Alexander (22 Aug 1836 - 24 May 1885) m. Martha S. Watson. N.O. lived in Butts County, Georgia, but he fought with a Confederate unit out of Jasper County, Georgia. - Willis Alexander (1798-1860) m. Sarah Chandler Banks. Born in Elbert County, Georgia. Died in Monroe County, Georgia. - William Alexander (5 June 1759 - 14 Dec 1805) m1. Frankey Rucker, m2. Nancy Shackleford. William was born in Culpeper County, Virginia. He migrated to Elbert County, Georgia, in the mid-1770's with a group from Virginia that founded Coldwater Methodist church north of Elberton, Georgia. I have copies of William's wills and all the returns. William was a Revolutionary soldier in Virginia and Georgia. William had a brother, George, that also moved to Elbert County, Georgia. Beyond William, I am unsure. Scenario 1: I have been operating under the idea that William's father was James Alexander (1722 - 10 Oct 1803) m. Elizabeth Reid. James b. Augusta County, Virginia, and d. Madison County, Virginia. I have James' father as Archibald Alexander (4 Feb 1707/08 - bef 1780) m. Margaret Parks. I show Archibald b. in Ireland and d. in Augusta County, Virginia. I have him immigrating to Pennsylvania in 1736 and moving to Virginia in 1739. Most of the documentation I have for this connection from William to James is internet-posted rather than primary documentation. Scenario 2: One researcher has posted information on-line (http://users.telepak.net/~kellyp/palexan.txt) showing James as the son of Moricida (Mordecai?). I have not been able to track this any further. There is some circumstantial evidence around this since William had a son named Mordecai (sometimes listed as Mortikey). Sorry for the long e-mail, but I am eager to move past this brick wall. Any help from anyone will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Craig W. Author: PennySutton67 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.alexander/6219/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am looking for the parents of Jesse Alexander b. abt 1831 in North Carolina. The only information I have for him is that according to the 1850 census, he was born in North Carolina. In 1850 Greenup Co., Kentucky census he is living with: Susan (whom I assume is his mother-b. abt 1811 NC) Jackson b. abt 1836, Susan b. abt 1841 KY, and Polly A. b. abt 1843 KY. In 1860 Greenup Co., Jesse is living with: Mildred A. F., b. 1929 Elizabeth, b. 1852 Vienna G., b. 1855 Ella Frances b. 1856(my ggggrandmother) and Luke Howland b. 1849 I believe Luke is a stepson from a previous marriage of Mildred's, so I don't even know her maiden name though I suspect it was Thompson only because she and Luke were living with William Thompson in 1850. By 1870 Mildred is living in Quincy, Lewis Co., Ky alone with the girls, coincindentally she is living near Milton Thompson, though I think if he's related he must be a cousin. Ella Frances Alexander married Allen William Willis 24 Jul 1878 and they both reside with Mildred in Quincy, Lewis Co., in 1880. It seems as though Jesse disappeared just a mysteriously as he appeared. I can find no death record in the area. I thought perhaps he fell in the civil war, but I can find no record of him in a Kentucky regiment. I just don't have enough information to make a solid guess even of some other regiment. I would be grateful for any information or any light you can shed. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My Love Alexander was born was born August 4, 1831 in Calhoun Co. AL. He had a connection with the Bordens of Borden Springs...Rebecca Borden married Matthew Alexander. Love was in the 30th regiment of the CSA. He did get captured at Vickburg, but he was paroled and then rejoined the fight and was killed on May 26, 1864 I think near Dallas Georgia. I have an inkling that the Love name came from an Indian ancestor. My mother said that one of my her ancestors had a small amount of Indian blood, but I don't know who that was. Love's name was in a Bible of the Borden Springs Alexanders but I don't know the connection. In the census, it states that his father was from Georgia. I am at a blank wall as to his parents. If you are not immediately related to a previous tester, you certainly could be in the future. This a great way to focus your research, and it is growing in popularity as the word spreads. The sooner you get a male Alexander tested, the sooner you will connect to previously unknown Alexander cousins so you can share information and research efforts.
