    3. I am not working on my ancestors who lived in Pennsylvania right now. I know they move up and down the east coast, I guess looking for work. The only name that comes to mind is Northumberland. I haven't looked into it any farther. My ancestry chart and information is from my Uncle Richard L. Alexander. He has passed on but I am trying to validate his information and follow what he has. I am having a really bad time with the Family Tree Maker 2008. So my progress is really slow right now. Sorry I am not being more help. 3. To All Members of the Alexander List: Re: The message below that I sent last evening. If any of you sent in information in the last few months and it doesn't show up on the Brick Wall Web Site, you can assume that I didn't get it because of the problem described. If you still want the information posted, please send it again, using the information below. Thanks! George Alexander http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~alexander Original Message --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ALEXANDER BRICK WALL WEB SITE To all subscribers to the ALEXANDER list: Have changed the format of the web site to accommodate changes made by the Rootsweb Free Pages people. One problem that has been noted (and reported to the trouble desk without response) is the input feature (the Submit button at the bottom of the Home page) has been inoperable for an indeterminate period of time. The last update that I received via this method was in March. As I said, it has been reported. Will keep reporting it until there is some resolution. In the meantime, if you have new input, revisions or deletions, send them directly to my email at: gtalexander@att.net Include: Your name; your email address; the type of input (Initial, Revision or Deletion); the Given Name of your Brick Wall person; their Date of Birth (01-01-1850); their Place of Birth; address if there is a related Web Site and Supplemental Information (in narrative form). Look at any name on the web site to see what information is needed and an idea what it will look like when posted. I will try to send a similar message out periodically until the regular process is fixed. George Alexander http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~alexander

I certainly did not ask my nephew to pay for his DNA to be tested. He did it for my benefit. Just my opinion. Just as I would gladly pay for an ALEXANDER member to be tested that had the possible origins of my line. Seems only right. Roger has really done a great job of recruiting and generating interest. Author: CarolVass Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.alexander/6192.2.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Mark: Here is the website for the Clan Donald yDNA project: http://dna-project.clan-donald-usa.org/ Somerled's Haplogroup has been determined to be "R1a". All of the descendants of the New Munster Seven Brothers who have participated in the ALEXANDER yDNA project are in Haplogroup "R1b". A simplified explanation of Haplogroup is that it is the 'name' of the 'branch' of the family tree of the "Y" chromosome. Different 'branches' means that there is NO genetic relationship for thousands upon thousands of years - in the case of R1a and R1b, it's almost literally 10,000 years ago. You can read through the Clan Donald sections on the history of the project. If you click on the RESULTS link at the top of the page, you can find the R1a Table to see those McDonalds/McAllisters & a few Alexanders who are in Haplogroup R1a. [These Alexanders in R1a group are also in the ALEXANDER yDNA project and have no relationship to the New Munster Seven Brothers.] If you click on the Clan Donald R1b Table, you will see the names of quite a few Alexanders who are descended from the New Munster Seven Brothers and are also on the ALEXANDER yDNA project. There are numerous men with the McDonald surname who are also in Haplogroup R1b meaning they are also not 'direct' descendants of Somerled. I don't believe these yDNA results mean that the New Munster Alexanders were not part of the Clan Donald at one time, but I am not a part of the Clan Donald and would have to bow to their expertise. On the ALEXANDER surname yDNA project, there are 15 men with 'paper trails' to one of the New Munster Seven Brothers who are excellent yDNA matches to each other. [There are an additional five men who match the 15, but who have not been able to connect themselves -- in a 'paper trail' way -- to the New Munster Seven, but who can use their DNA results to focus on the New Munster Seven.] Quite a few of these 15 men are also on the Clan Donald project and show up in that projects R1b Haplogroup Tables. If you'd like, I can identify their Clan Donald 'code' numbers. On the ALEXANDER surname yDNA project, there are currently 87 participants with 14 matching 'sets' of two or more people. By far, the New Munster Seven group has the most participants. Roger Alexander is working hard to find other participants so that many more people are able to use yDNA as a supplemental tool for their genealogical research. I have known this for so long. My brother could take part but if the group really want to know about the DNA findings they should support the cost. I know Chris Alexander is waiting for his bonus from work to do his DNA. I feel like so many people want to know the results and want to proove the line so their research will be easier for them. It is just a thought. I have not even asked my brother to test but I think it would be very interesting. But how do you call someone who knows nothing about this and ask them to come up with 191.00 to test is not an easy thing. Even if I split the cost it is still a lot of money. Just a thought and an idea that would probably generate more people testing. Christine (Alexander) Viescas Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My great-grandfather was Robert Harrington Alexander, Jr. He was born on 11 Oct 1884 in Memphis, TN, and died 2 Dec 1934. He was a City of Memphis fire lieutenant, killed in the line of duty. As far as I can tell from census records, his father was Robert Harrington Alexander I, who was born approximately 1837 in either KY or OH (the census records are conflicting.) Robert Harrington I was married to Louisa "Lily" Means who was born in 1848 in Marshall County, MS, and died in Memphis, TN. I am trying to find any information out about them that I can. The only other thing I know is their burial plot in Elmwood Cemetery in Memphis. Thanks so much in advance! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
