According to the 1880 census, Richard was born abt. 1852 and his mother, Mary, b. abt 1810. Given that I looked in the 1860 census and found a Richard Posey age 8 living with several other Posey children in the household of a Hardiman family in Calhoun county. The wife in this Hardiman family is named Mary and her age is only off by 5 years. The only problem is it shows her being born in Alabama. Also in the Posey family is a son aged Alfred aged 18 and a son named Joseph living in the next household and aged 21 (probably a worker for their farm). There are also several other Posey children. Go back 10 years to the 1850 census. Take for granted the 1860 census information is correct, Richard would not have been born but Alfred and Mary should be in the same household. In Blount county, there is a Israel Posey age 42 and born in TN. His wife is named Mary also born in TN and age 37 making her born abt. 1813. In this household there is a son named Alford but the age is off and several of the other children ages do not match the 1860 census info. However census information can be terribly incorrect depending on who gave the information and how sober the census taker was. If this does pan out to be the correct family, it looks like Israel Posey's parents are living in the next household- Johanson Posey-aged 65 years and born in S. Carolina. There are also several more Posey families living in the area in Blount county. Hope this is of some help.
