Al Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Al/Etowah/647 Surname: Hoffman, Hoffmann ------------------------- I wondered by some slim chance someone was familiar with a piece of property owned by my Grandfather from 1917-1920. It was farmed at that time (corn and cotton I believe from the many pictures) His name was Dr. Joseph Henry Hoffmann. In his retirement he farmed this piece of land which he described as 5 miles east of Gadsden on Rabbit town Road. He named it Pennala, as he came from Pennsylvania to Alabama. He sold it to a man by the name of Huffman after he moved back to PA. In JHH's cronicles he states they were fully moved out 1/1/1920 so I missed seeing him in the 1920 census. He wrote that they rented a home at 510 Haralson Rd. until May of 1920. I don't know what section of Gadsden that is to find it in the 1920 census >From what I can tell by maps of the area I think it is near the intersection of Rabbit town and Lonesome Bend Road, South of 278. The had a house and barn there. I have many pictures of this time there. Included in the pictures is the Hospital there and St. James Church. Also many pictures of them near what looks like a creek or river(Cove Creek? I'm guessing from the map) Would love to chat with someone who lives near there. Kate Hoffmann Micco
