From: Delilah Sent: Wednesday, September 14, 2005 2:48 PM Subject: KITCHENS obit NOLAN JACKSON KITCHENS Funeral services for Nolan Jackson Kitchens, age 84, of Hokes Bluff, who passed away July 30, 2005, were held Wednesday August 3, 2005 at the Chapel of Collier Butler Funeral Home. The Rev. Scott Hassell of the Etowah County Sheriff's Department officiated. Graveside rites were in Barannacas National Cemetery on board Pensacola NAS, Florida on Thursday, August 4, 2005, where he received full military honors. Mr. Kitchens grew up in Folkson, Georgia and joined the U.S.M.C. at the age of 17, where he served for 20 years. After retirement, he went to work for the State of Florida for several years until he accepted a position with the State of Alabama in 1971 and moved to Hokes Bluff, Alabama. After retirement from the state, he enjoyed many activities including hunting and fishing with all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a proud member of the First Baptist Church of Gadsden, Pearl Harbors Survivors Association, Marine Corps League, Etowah County Sheriff's Aux., and the VFW. Mr. Kitchens was preceded in death by his parents: Grover Cleveland and Cassie Sadie Kitchens; his brothers: Sterling Lamar and Jack Kitchens. Mr. Kitchens is survived by his wife: Mae Kitchens; his son: Tommy Kitchens; daughters:Judith Burttram and Linda Murphy; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren: sister: Earlene Entricken The U.S. Military Honor Guard served as pallbearers. --------------------------- SOURCE: The Messenger, August 10, 2005
