I have a 4 CD set of the Will Martin newspaper articles put out by either The Gadsden Times or the library. On the back it says: "Will I Martin was born in Calhoun County in 1871 and came to Gadsden when he was 1 year old. He was educated in the public schools of Gadsden and the University of Alabama. In 1892, shortly after college he became a member of the editorial staff of The Gadsden Leader, He gathered news for three years while riding a bobtail pony. He forsook this employment for a few years but reporting was in his blood. He returned to Gadsden before 1920 to work at The Gadsden Times until his death in 1954. "Mr. Will" began writing his daily columns in 1946. He wrote apporximately 4,000 columns generally known as "Fifty Years Ago". His sister, longtime librarian Miss Lena Martin, preserved these columns in scrapbooks. Because of the deteriorating condition of the scrapbooks and a desire to share this local history, in the mid 1980's the Gadsden Public Library Reference Staff began typing and saving these columns on disc. It was a laborious task, complicated by ever-changing computer technology and format compatibility. This is not a professional product. Some scrapbooks are indexed but columns are mainly grouped by date. What it lacks in quality is outweighed by hours of reading enjoyment. You will treasure this wonderful memoir of Gadsden and Etowah County.' ----- Original Message ----- From: "Terry Jackson" <jacksont@otelco.net> To: <aletowah@rootsweb.com> Cc: <ALETOWAH-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, October 21, 2006 10:32 PM Subject: Re: [ALETOWAH] Death record or obit | The dates are different, but this looks like yours. | | Name: Alice (Will) Martin | Death Date: Aug 1928 | Death County: Etowah | Volume: 39 | Roll: 3 | Page #: 19139 | | | cdmart10@aol.com wrote: | | >This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. | > | >Surnames: MARTIN | >Classification: Query | > | >Message Board URL: | > | >http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/DS.2ADE/1560 | > | >Message Board Post: | > | >Looking for a death record or obit for Alice Martin, widow of Willie Martin.
