Surnames: Posey / Turner Family Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/DS.2ADE/1553.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: This info. surely does help!! It does seem like that you found the people I was looking for. When I was looking, I had run across the Mary Hardiman, but could not seem to get it to fit. It never dawned on me that she could have remarried. According to the 1900 census, Sunflower County, MS. Richard is listed along with his children and his wife, "Mattie". But that could have been the census takers fault. I wonder who the woman was that Richard almost married? Thank you so much for helping me.

Surnames: Posey, Turner Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/DS.2ADE/1553.1.1 Message Board Post: John, First of all, thank you for trying to help me. Let me tell you how I am related to the Posey's . My grandmother was Ethel Lydia Posey (Frazier) born to Lydia Turner Posey and Joseph C. Posey. Both my grandmother and great grandmother died at a "very" young age. My grandmother Ethel was only 4 or 5 when her mother, (Lydia) died at 27or 28. Then my mother was only 9 when her mother (Ethel) died at 42. So my mother knows nothing about her people, except what I found. The family in the 1850 census could be them. Mary Posey states in the 1880 census that she was born in Tennessee. In the 1900 census I found Richard Posey with his family (new wife) in Sunflower County, MS. He states that his father was born in England and his mother was born in North Carolina, he also said he was 52 at the time. I could not find him in the 1910 census so I am assuming he either died or moved. His children, Joseph and George W. still lived in Sunflower County, Miss. Joseph died in 1930 and George W. died in 1920. But, I agree with you that it all depends on the census takers. I am having an exceptionally hard time finding out any info. on my grandmother's mother side, the Turner Family.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/DS.2ADE/1553.1 Message Board Post: I'm not related but thought I would try to help. According to the 1880 census, Richard was born abt. 1852 and his mother, Mary, b. abt 1810. Given that I looked in the 1860 census and found a Richard Posey age 8 living with several other Posey children in the household of a Hardiman family in Calhoun county. The wife in this Hardiman family is named Mary and her age is only off by 5 years. The only problem is it shows her being born in Alabama. Also in the Posey family is a son aged Alfred aged 18 and a son named Joseph living in the next household and aged 21 (probably a worker for their farm). There are also several other Posey children. Go back 10 years to the 1850 census. Take for granted the 1860 census information is correct, Richard would not have been born but Alfred and Mary should be in the same household. In Blount county, there is a Israel Posey age 42 and born in TN. His wife is named Mary also born in TN and age 37 making her born abt. 1813. In this household there is a son named Alford but the age is off and several of the other children ages do not match the 1860 census info. However census information can be terribly incorrect depending on who gave the information and how sober the census taker was. If this does pan out to be the correct family, it looks like Israel Posey's parents are living in the next household- Johanson Posey-aged 65 years and born in S. Carolina. There are also several more Posey families living in the area in Blount county. Hope this is of some help.
