After his death she married my Grand father Robert Lee Mintz there circa 1901. I'm making a trip over to Etowah co. to look for records this month on the three families. When I examined my source again, I discovered the race was for the Senate (I don't know if it was for the Alabama Senate or the U.S.Senate.). Hobson spoke in Altoona, AL in December of 1913 during this race. Is this an Underwood of your's or do you know anything about this race? Dave.

He was my husband's (Randy) great uncle. His son ran for Govenor in Calhoun County, Georgia. Not sure of his name, but it could possibly be Frank Underwood. He didn't win. We just knew that he ran. The Underwood's we are close kin to still live in Etowah County but some of the line moved to Georgia years ago.

My James came from Anderson Dist., SC to Cobb County, GA in the mid-1850's. He died in Gadsden, AL in 1906, buried at Green's Graveyard in Etowah County, AL. There are some BERRY people in my family on my paternal grandmother's side. James Davis (my 3rd GGrandfather) was living with his youngest son, John Henry Davis, at the time of his death but had lived previously - in 1900 AL census - with daughter Mary Louise Morris and her husband Wilson Berry Morris near Gadsden. 3. Posted on: Etowah Co. Al Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Al/Etowah/601 Surname: Jones ------------------------- Looking for descandants of Joe Jones who was working in Altoona, AL from about 1913 to 1920 and beyond for Gulf States Steel Company which took over Standard Steel Company. Joe may have married about 1910. A source indicates that his wife may have been named "Nad" (Nadene?). Joe is believed to have attended the Massey Business College in Birmingham around 1912. There was a male child that was an infant death sometime before January of 1914 . Around 1915, another boy was born. This was the only child mentioned in1920, where he was 5 years old, then. Joe had brothers: Jim, Will, Charles, and sister, Bula, all of whom lived in other states, except, possibly, Jim who was in Bibb County, AL at some point and may have moved to Altoona later. The Jones name is very difficult to follow as it is so common. As such, any info on any Joe Jones from the time period around Altoona would be greatly appreciated. Dave.

    3. Posted on: Etowah Co. Al Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Al/Etowah/600 Surname: Jones, McCrickard ------------------------- Randy, See the following link: http://www.couchgenweb.com/family/underwod.htm Now, note 6, on that page, mentions a book: "The Underwood's of Madison County Virginia." It contains a considerable amount of info on the Underwoods' The book follows numerous branches as they move from Virginia. My branch of them moved into Arkansas, but, part of my family was in Alabama also (around Altoona in Etowah County). In an old letter, I remember reading of a political election that was mentioned where one of the cantidates was an Underwood. This was about 1905-1912. When I read that, I wondered if that Underwood was related to my line since part of my family was there in Alabama and perhaps that was how the family's encountered each other? But, the name of the cantidate was not mentioned and that was the end of that. If you find an Underwood that was running for office in the time period mentioned and have a name, I would be interested to learn that name as I will compare it to my information to see if there is any link. Thanks Dave.

I have heard that he came from KY or TN, but I do not know. Fidie was born in Arkansas. Where is Etowah county?
