Elizabeth Coats. They lived in the area of Etowah County that is now Coats Bend. She was niece of Gideon Coats that the bend was named for. This area was in Cherokee Co. Al. until 1867 when Etowah Co. was formed. There was a large family of Leath's that lived in the area, but all records in Cherokee before 1886 have been lost since the Court House in Cherokee Co. burned. An census records would be Cherokee before 1870.

He left Etowah County in 1885 and settled in Franklin County, AR. He had at least 3 brothers; William D born about 1854 in GA, James E. born about 1858 and Charles born about 1867 in AL. I believe that William went to AR with M. C. and I haven't followed up on the other two. I would love to hear which line of BOATRIGHT/BOATWRIGHT you are researching, I get mine back to Joshua R. BOATRIGHT in 1850 in Murray County, GA and find two men with the same name and of almost the same age, one married Caroline and the other married Angeline and both of them name their sons a variant of the same name--Marcellus Chesley or Chesley. A puzzle! Mary Boatwright Yegge Gresham OR Surnames of interest: BOATWRIGHT, HOOPER, SANDERS, HARRISON, RICHARDS, PATRICK and PIPER.

It is a fully indexed, hardback book containing info on over 6,800 descendants of John Frederick Croft, born about 1741, who received a land survey in Greenville Co. SC in 1785. All of Frederick's younger children migrated to Western KY about 1812. Many of their descendants remain in the Western KY area today, but some have moved to other states, including AR, MS, TX, etc. The book also contains info on his daughters families, including Duvall, Jackson, Brasher and Brown, and related families of Lantrip, Menser and many, many more.
