    1. Marriage Book
    2. Gina, The Marriage Book is wonderful. It only covers Etowah County, but covers marriages from 1900-1909 with NOTES. It is arranged by Section 1: Groom; Section 2: Bride; and Section 3: Notes. Here is an example of some of the notes: Book P. Pg. 123 J. H. Vasser Age 19, Height 5 ft 8 in, weight 142, Residence; Alabama City, AL; Occupation Cotton Mill; Berma Martin age 18, Height 5 ft. weight 130. Book H Pg. 201 The Marriage License for William A. Barnett & Eula Hood was void because William was not of age. I am not sure of the price, but I know that Gail will contact you. Sincerely, Moo

    1. Presidential visit?
    2. Jim Nix
    3. Etowah researchers, My wife has several family lines that came through Etowah county - Lankford, Purcell, Gray, Parker, Reese, etc. There is a family story that her Great Grandmother, Rebecca Parker Gray, told of her family being visited by the President of the United States. We have always wondered if there were any truth to the story. Do any of you Etowah County historians know of a time (probably before 1900) when a U.S. President might have visited Etowah County, particularly Attalla? Rebecca's father-in-law was Allen Gray, the first Postmaster of Attalla, appointed by President Ulysses S. Grant. She named one of her sons Ulysses S. Gray, so we have always thought that the President involved might have been Grant. Also, Rebecca's father, John Parker, was born in the Chattanooga area and the Parker family lived there at the time of the Battle of Chattanooga. Again, Grant could have been the person involved, but prior to his becoming President. Thanks for any help you can give. Jim Nix Birmingham, AL

I have no information re: the family during the time from 1880 until 1910. Any one with any knowledge re: this family? Would like to have any suggestions as to which records are available on the internet or for searching in the county. Thanks for any help Paul R.L. Vance

    3. I am trying to determine the most likely burial place for someone who, according to 1870 census, lived in Township 12, Range 7, Kansas Beat Prct 3. Would appreciate names of any cemeteries that existed in this area in 1870. Also if anyone has a cemetery book or surveys for Etowah County, I am looking for the burial place for Mary Ann Haynie, and possibly two of her children, John Wesley and Robert Haynie. Would appreciate a lookup of any surveys you might have. I checked those available on Rootsweb but some were just partial surveys and did not find anything. Thanks in advance for any help and suggestions.
