Amelia abt 1755 is the same Jonas Jordan who marr Elizabeth "Betsy" Elmore, and emigrated along w/ a large contingent of his in-laws from VA (various counties) to Laurens, SC & subsequently to central AL (Autauga/Elmore), then I think there's a good chance that he's related to William Jordan who marr. (bef. 1721, Essex cty., VA) Rachel Meador (see will of John Meador, Essex, prob. 21 Nov. 1721). In Amelia cty. 1768 one Jonas Jordan sold a parcel of land from an original grant to Jason Meador. A Rachel Jordan was wit. to the deed. (If this was Rachel who marr. William Jordan she would have been about 70 at the time.) There were other Jordans in Amelia in same time frame and for some decades before (see colonial tax lists). Jonas who sold the land in Amelia 1768 is allegedly the same Jonas Jordan who d. Bedford cty., abt 1785(inv.). I don't have a 'paper trail' on that, but there is supporting circumstantial evidence. The 1800 Bedford tax records show several Jordans - Jonas, Absalom, et al. My ancestor Judith Elmore Williams was the sister of Betsy Elmore Jordan. Judith & her family were in Bedford briefly around 1802, & appear to have moved to Laurens, SC then Autauga/Elmore cty., AL about the same time as the Jordans. Betsy & Judith's mother Susannah Elmore (nee' Morris) married secondly abt 1768/9 James Meador (same fam. as Rachel, above). I've noticed that some online pedigrees and databases incorrectly show Susannah's maiden name as Jordan. Her maiden name is proven in the 1755 record of her marriage to Archelaus Elmore (Pr. Edw. cty., VA). Her marriage to James Meador is inferred from the guardianship records of the minor Elmore chn. (Amelia, VA) and from James & Susannah's wills (Laurens, SC). Rgds., Judy Baugh
