It was called Kilby. There is another prison called Tutwiler which is a woman's prison on the eastern side of Wetumpka. It is not very old. In 1866 Elmore Co was formed from parts of Coosa, Autauga, Montgomery, and Tallapoosa counties. Wetumpka where the present "Tutwiler exists, before 1866 was in part of the in Coosa, and part in Montgomery. I suspect a tip of it was in Autauga. I well remember passing by old Kilby; the last time I saw it, only a pile of bricks remained. Anne G.
