I'd love to have the info available on line too, as I had great great grandparents with a Central Institute location (P O) on one of the census reports. Suspect their kids were enrolled there too. > [Original Message] > From: <rolltide@meta-net.net> > To: <ALELMORE-L@rootsweb.com> > Date: 11/4/02 7:26:48 PM > Subject: [ALElmore] Re: Central Institute P.O. of Elmore County, ca 1870 > > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: Walkley, Birmingham, Chrietzberg, Whetstone, Moore, W.D. Sadie lived in Alabama. My father and Uncle knows of a Sadie in Alabama besides their mother Sadie. Vicey and Elizabeth were both sisters. Minerva was their mother. Minerva came from either Indochina, New Delhi, Indian, or Indonesia. Her parents were Jim and Eliza. Their last name was ??? Burill, Burel, Bruill, Burrow ??? We are searching for the correct spelling. This is what I have spent much time on. They are using the McCain name from their Master. Also, the McCains of this lineage lived with a "Sheppard" family somewhere in the 1800's. My grandmother would always say this name, but did not know the spelling. When you shared Berioah, we thought probably this could be what she was telling us for quite sometime now. The spelling seems to be similar.

Amelia abt 1755 is the same Jonas Jordan who marr Elizabeth "Betsy" Elmore, and emigrated along w/ a large contingent of his in-laws from VA (various counties) to Laurens, SC & subsequently to central AL (Autauga/Elmore), then I think there's a good chance that he's related to William Jordan who marr. (bef. 1721, Essex cty., VA) Rachel Meador (see will of John Meador, Essex, prob. 21 Nov. 1721). In Amelia cty. 1768 one Jonas Jordan sold a parcel of land from an original grant to Jason Meador. A Rachel Jordan was wit. to the deed. (If this was Rachel who marr. William Jordan she would have been about 70 at the time.) There were other Jordans in Amelia in same time frame and for some decades before (see colonial tax lists). Jonas who sold the land in Amelia 1768 is allegedly the same Jonas Jordan who d. Bedford cty., abt 1785(inv.). I don't have a 'paper trail' on that, but there is supporting circumstantial evidence. The 1800 Bedford tax records show several Jordans - Jonas, Absalom, et al. My ancestor Judith Elmore Williams was the sister of Betsy Elmore Jordan. Judith & her family were in Bedford briefly around 1802, & appear to have moved to Laurens, SC then Autauga/Elmore cty., AL about the same time as the Jordans. Betsy & Judith's mother Susannah Elmore (nee' Morris) married secondly abt 1768/9 James Meador (same fam. as Rachel, above). I've noticed that some online pedigrees and databases incorrectly show Susannah's maiden name as Jordan. Her maiden name is proven in the 1755 record of her marriage to Archelaus Elmore (Pr. Edw. cty., VA). Her marriage to James Meador is inferred from the guardianship records of the minor Elmore chn. (Amelia, VA) and from James & Susannah's wills (Laurens, SC). Rgds., Judy Baugh

My Step-Father descended from BUSH & KIMBELL lines, both from Elmore & Coosa Counties, Ala. He died in 1995 and a box of old letters was passed to me. Having just begun to read them, and to trace his lines, I want to share this information with as many as possible. Please visit my webpage if you're interested in these lines...or if you'd just like to read about the lives and times of these folks. My Step-Father's paternal grandparents were Theodore Bush & Mattie Jewel Kimbell of Eros, Jackson Parish, La...most of these old letters were written to Mattie from relatives back in Ala. I have NO idea who the parents were of Mattie Kimbell, and will certainly welcome any and all information! Thanks. One of my ancestors, Martha "Mattie" Calloway was their daughter. And I was hoping to find some information on her life. All I know is that Mattie was born in 1848 in Ashe Co. NC moved to TX with family around 1859 or so. Then somehow or another married my gggranddad Eli Fitzwater around 1862 or so, had a kid named Tom. Then in 1880 census she was counted with her mother Catherine Calloway and both listed as widows. Have not found any other information on Mattie since. So do you have any? I appreciate all and any responses.

At one time there were many Hatchetts living in Shrewsbury, Burlton, Peplow, and other small towns near Shrewsbury. I looked currently for Hatchetts living there and could find none. There are a few Hatchetts living in London. I went into the Hatchett Pub in Bath but it is no longer owned by Hatchetts, yet some did live in Bath at one time. There was a restaurant in London named Hatchetts but it closed in the 1970's. Hatchett is anglicised from the original name, Hache, wheich was one of the soldiers who came to England in 1066 with Willam. The Hache/Hachette families were from France in the Alsace/Lorraine area.
