I am so thankful to Loomis and Mildred Geddie and friends for this work. Many others donated money for dirt and such. I think Mr. Pittman donated the fence. A big Thank You to all who helped. This makes genealogy more special.

Subject: Architreats Program Thursday, Jan 16 at noon "Did the Civil War Create A New Southern Woman?" will be presented by George Rable at the Architreats: Food for Thought program on Thursday, Jan. 16th at 12:05 PM in the Ala. Dept. of Archives & History's Milo Howard Auditorium. Rable explores the effects of the war on families and the new roles held by women. Relying on the words of women themselves, this presentation focuses on women's expectations during the War of Northern Agression, as they reacted to wartime events and contemplated the changes in their own lives. Included are stories of women who remained on farms or plantations, volunteered in hospitals, or worked in factories and government offices. Rable compares these new challenges with how women dealt with the problems and sacrifices forced on their families by the war itself. George Rable is the Charles Summersell Professor of Southern History at the Univ. of Alabama. He received his Ph.D. in history from LSU. Rable's research is on the Civil War era and has written numerous books on the subject. The noontime program is one in a series of monthy third-Thursday free lectures at the Archives sponsored by the Alabama Humanities Foundation. Bring a sack lunch: coffee and tea will be provided by the Friends of the Archives.

He was the son of Capt. John and Susannah McNeese Milner from Richmond Co., VA who moved to Tallapoosa County, AL before their deaths. This Robert was married 1st to Martha Amanda Milner, Dec. 31, 1839, and 2nd to Carolyn Tinsley in 1861. His children by Martha were: Sarah, Clarissa ("Claicy"), Warren, Eugenia, John, Mary Ann and Temperance. His children by Carolyn were: Mariah, Samuel Robert, George T., Lonza (m) and Carrie. As you can see, these are different dates from yours, but the same names. I don't know if it is a match or not, but it could be grandparents or something. I did not do the research on this. I got it from a World Family Tree file noted above.

I have been searching for location of Robert's grave and I have come to a complete dead end. I would appreciate a look up for Robert and possibly his wife Martha Amanda Milner in the Elmore Co cemetery books. I would also like to find the grave of his son John A Milner -- I believe John A Milner was a teacher in Coosa Co AL for most of his life and I have not been able to find any record of his marriage, death, or burial. He could be buried in Coosa, Tallapoosa, or Elmore. The last record I have of John A is the 1920 Coosa Co census. The census lists John A Milner single music teacher. My family is orginally from Elmore County Al, Wetumpka to be exact prior to 1902/3. William David Heisler (g-g-gf) was born in 1848 in Alabama (county/town not mentioned). Between 1874 and 1893 he had 9 children all boys born in the Wetumpka area. I have a very detailed family tree back to the 9 children of William David Heisler and America Smith, but nothing indicating his brothers, sisters, father or mother. Perhaps the relative you are looking for is one of my g-g-gf's brothers children? Any info you can come up with will be greatly appreciated.
