This data collection phase is very important because data accuracy is critical. By the end of the year I will be asking everyone to send pictures and stories, all of which will be included. This is a giant undertaking, but it will be most rewarding. What I need right now, in any format, is hard data: names of Spigner-Speigner-Spigener descendants, dates, burial places (cemetery names and locations would be very helpful -I'm trying to visit them all), and other good data. I will need proof readers and editors for content by around the end of the year, so please volunteer. And get your pictures and stories ready!! SEND INFO NOW - SNAIL MAIL, VOICE MAIL or EMAIL!!! I finally thought I had it all together so that I could post and I jumped the gun. After going back over things, I decided to check the 1910 Elmore census one more time. James and Mary are alive and well, which means that Mary and Sarah are not Bessie and Justina's sisters. SO, the question becomes - does anyone recognize Bessie and Justina? Sorry for the confusion. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lloyd and Linda" <lllang18@comcast.net> To: <ALELMORE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, June 07, 2002 12:05 AM Subject: [ALElmore] Mullens 1850s-1900s > Does anyone recognize a Mullens/Mullins family that would have at least four daughters? > > Mary E. b. Does anyone recognize a Mullens/Mullins family that would have at least four daughters? Mary E. b. Dec 1859 (m. James B. Darden in Elmore in 1881, in 1900 Elmore census; widowed, living in TN with Harvey and Bessie Mullens Eagan in 1910 census) Sarah b. Dec 1859 (unmarried, living with James and Mary E. Mullens Darden in 1900 Elmore census) Justina b. 1866 (m. Nathaniel Owen Walker in TN in 1887) Bessie b. abt. 1872 (m. Harvey Eagan in TN in 1897) I haven't found a family in the 1860 Tallapoosa census or 1870 1880 Elmore census with the right combination of names, but my husband knew Bessie and Justina, Mary was living with Bessie in 1910 (as Harvey's sister-in-law), and Sarah was living with Mary in 1900 (as James' sister-in-law). Does anyone recognize this family? The closest I come is from the 1880 census of Littleberry Mullins, wife Elizabeth, daughters Sarah and Mary (19), son William (17), and daughter Susan (13). Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/VS.2ADI/615.1 Message Board Post: http://www.archives.state.al.us/counties/elmore.html Elmore County was created by the Alabama legislature on 1866 Feb. 15, from parts of Autauga, Coosa, Montgomery, and Tallapoosa Counties. It was named for General John Archer Elmore, a veteran of the American Revolution and early settler of Alabama. Elmore County lies in the east-central part of the state. It is drained by the Coosa and the Tallapoosa Rivers, which merge to form the Alabama River a few miles south of Wetumpka. The French established Fort Toulouse at the confluence of the Coosa and Tallapoosa in 1717, upon which site Gen. Andrew Jackson erected Fort Jackson in 1814, following the Battle of Horseshoe Bend. Wetumpka is the county seat. Other towns and communities include Eclectic, Tallassee, and Millbrook. Authority: Owen, Thomas McAdory. History of Alabama and Dictionary of Alabama Biography. For future reference, it might be a good idea to add to your bookmarks this site: <http://alabamamaps.ua.edu/alabama/historical/index.html> It shows the county boundaries in Alabama over history. Look at the 1860 map and you'll see in white the modern county boundaries, and in red the ones as they existed at that time. You'll see that there were still later changes. But the short answer is that Elmore County was created from portions of Montgomery, Autauga, Coosa and Tallapoosa Counties. = Steve = -- Steve W.
