Could anyone please do a look-up in the 1880 / 1890 / or 1900 Census for Thomas Holtzclaw (B/M)? He would have probably lived in the Knight Mill District. I would be grateful to know what members lived in his household during that time. If a Ben, Sarah or Ella Holtzclaw is located in these census records, I would appreciate that as well. Thanks for any help that may be offered. - Ruth

I live about a hundred or more miles from the cemetery and know absolutely no one there. I just went looking for some of my ancestors (some at Shoal Creek and some at Coosa Primitive) and found that they were the same cemetery. Sincerely Robert H. Wamble

Which is correct or can both names be used in referring >to same cemetery? Will someone please clear this up for me, I would >be most grateful. I don't suppose you should consider this authoritative, but I do have some knowledge of the two names and will tell you what I know. The modern day church there is Shoal Creek Baptist Church. There's a small white building bearing a sign for the old Coosa River Primitive Baptist Church -- if memory serves, it says it was constituted in 1821. My copy of "Historical Atlas of Alabama, Volume 2: Cemeteries by County" shows Shoal Creek as the church and Coosa River as the cemetery, on opposite sides of the road. I'd have to concur with the naming. But since the cemetery (particularly the portion on the same side of the road as the church) predates the new church by a great many years, it's ALL named Coosa River to me and others familiar with the area. I've got countless relatives (and at least one direct ancestor) dating back quite some time on one side or the other. = Steve = -- Steve W.
