    3. Dear friends, There seems to be confusion in many genealogical accounts between possibly *two* John ALDRIDGEs who lived in Prince George Co, MD in the 18th century. I need the help of anyone who has knowledge in this area to try to straighten them out. ALl of my information is based on family trees I've received from fellow researchers. I do not know what is correct and what is not. If *anyone* has evidence to support any of these claims, please let us know. It is obvious that some of this information is incorrect, which is why I think we need to get this straightened out. Some accounts say that a John ALDRIDGE, b. 28 March 1712 in Anne Arundel Co, MD as the son of Thomas ALDRIDGE and Elizabeth PURDY, married an Eleanor WATKINS, and that both died in Prince George Co, MD, he in 1752 and she in 1760. This John would be the grandson of Nicholas and Martha Besson ALDRIDGE of Anne Arundel CO, MD. Children listed for this couple are (1) John born c1740 who married Sarah CROW and died in Montgomery Co, MD; children Joshua, Isaac, James and John P. (2) Jacob b. c. 1741 who married Elizabeth SOPER; children Betsy, James, Elinor, Jacob, John Simpson and Andrew. (3) Thomas b.c. 1744 m. Elizabeth CROW; d. Henry Co, KY; no children listed (4) Susannah b.c. 1746 m. William PRATHER. That's the first John ALDRIDGE. The second is John ALDRIDGE b. 1688 in Talbot Co, MD, son of John ALDRIDGE and Elizabeth Mitchell. Died c 1750 Prince George Co, MD. Wife Elinor ??? died around 1760 Prince George Co, MD. This John is from the Northumberland Co, VA Aldridge line through Clement Sr's son George Aldridge. Children: (1) Thomas Aldridge/Eldridge b. 1738, d. after 1821 in Knox Co, TN, m. Catherine Taylor. Only child I have listed for fairly sure is John ELDRIDGE b. 1774 m. Sarah "Polly" GILLILAND. Some accounts list other children of this John and Elinor as (2) John; (3) Jacob and (4) Susannah m. PRATHER [see above]. I am not a Maryland researcher, and don't know whether there might have been two John and Eleanor/Elinor ALDRIDGE families living in Prince George Co, MD at the same time with children by the same name or not, though it seems very unlikely. I suspect, as has often happened, that someone somewhere along the way "claimed" one of these to be part of their tree, and this misinformation is being perpetuated ever since. I have a really big pet peeve about perpetuating misinformation, and also feel an ethical mission to get it straight when I find it. Can anyone help with this? Thanks for listening. This is just one of many "parallel" family groups I've found who are claimed by different families. Perhaps we can clear these up one by one!
