Hi Everyone! I've just been approved for a chat room at Talk City! It's called Root Cellar. I thought it might be nice to discuss our research "live". No software download is needed. It's very Webtv friendly! All you have to do is click on the link below: http://www.talkcity.com/chat.htmpl?room=RootCellar Computer users will be taken to a page to choose a nickname to chat with, and then click on the link to be taken to the room. Webtv users will be taken directly to the chat room. I was thinking we could decide on a day/time and meet there for discussions. Of course you can just pop in anytime to just chat. I'll be putting this link on my website today, http:www.geocities.com/heartland/shores/6616/index.html so you'll be able to access it there too. Anyone else who would like to link to it from their website is welcome to do so! Happy Chatting! Laura
Correction! (sorry) This story must have happen in Texas, not Arkansas. It was reported in The Signal, published out of Honey Grove. Honey Grove is located in Fannin Co. Texas. Since my research can't seem to find it's way out of Arkansas. I assumed (I know, know) that Honey Grove must have been near Sugar Grove, Arkansas. Bad genealogist! Myra was kind enough to help me out with Honey Grove's true location. Laura
I found this amazing article tonite following an interesting conversation I had regarding the death of one of my ancestors at such an early age. I was remarking how strange is was that he had died in his early 20's of the Flu. My friend asked me, "Was it in 1918"?, and proceded to relate a story of a documentary she had seen on the subject. I had never heard anything about it before this evening. I am just shocked at the numbers of our people that were stricken down in this epidemic! You can read the article yourself, at: http://www.detnews.com/history/flu/flu.htm Laura
*Article* About 10 o'clock Monday morning, the home of Mr. C.R. Alred, of Paris, was destroyed by fire, and the fire which destroyed the home also burned to death Mrs. Alred and her 2 children, aged 4 and 2 years. Mrs. Alred had been at home but a short time from a visit to a neighbor's when the fire broke out, and for a time the fire was a mystery, but after the building had burned to the ground the cause of the sudden fire was discovered. The stove had been blown to pieces and near it was a coal oil can. The bodies of Mrs. Alred and one of the children were also near the stove. These evidences showed unmistakably that the woman had started to make a fire in the stove and had poured coal oil from the can into the stove, and that the can had exploded, burning Mrs. Alred and the child to death almost instanly. The younger child was asleep in the adjoining room. (Honey Grove Signal- January 23, 1914)

There is a new virus - WOBBLER. It will arrive on e-mail titled CALIFORNIA. IBM and AOL have announced it is very powerful, more so than 'Melissa', there is no remedy. It will eat all your information on the hard drive and also destroys Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer. Do not open anything with this title "CALIFORNIA" and please pass this information on to all your contacts and anyone who uses your e-mail facility. Not many people seem to know about this yet so propagate it as fast as possible.

I am new to the list, so would appreciate hearing from anyone who may have information concerning my Aldridge line. My gggrandfather was Mount Calvary Aldridge b.cal823 in Ky. according to Law. Co., Ohio census records. As much as I can determine his mother's name was Nancy b.l790 in Tenn. They arrived in Lawrence Co. by l830 without the father, so we do not know his father's name. He had 3 known brothers, Robert, James, and Stephen all born in Ky. We think his father's name could possibly be Marcus DeLayfette because several grandchildren were given this name. Anything on this line would be appreciated and I will gladly share what I have....thanks, Sandy ___________________________________________________________________ Get the Internet just the way you want it.
