    1. Lewis Stephens GA > Autauga Co, AL d abt. 1827
    2. Carol Shrader
    3. I am searching for information on Lewis STEPHENS who died in Autauga Co, AL in 1827 leaving a widow Mary & 2 children: Louisa & John. The widow obviously died very shortly after Lewis STEPHENS. Executor Joseph COLLINS was given custody of the children. Witnesses were: William WHITE & Thomas WILLIAMS. Estate papers mention having to spend money to send someone to Georgia. Georgia records yield a 3 June 1819 marriage of Lewis STEPHENS to Mary WILLIAMS in Baldwin Co, GA. Purchasers from the Autauga Co, AL estate include the following CRENSHAW men: James, Abraham & Robert. J ? CRENSHAW (2nd initial hard to decipher, could be S) was later paid $32.42 1/2 from the estate for "doing work". Another accounting of the estate shows money owed to & from Abraham CRENSHAW. Other 1828 purchasers, in addition to the CRENSHAW men, include: Lewis ALDRIDGE, Wm HIGHTOWER, Thos. WILLIAMS, Joseph COLLINS, Caleb ETHERIDGE, George SHADIVICH (??), Oratio CHAMBLIS, Reuben ALDRIDGE, James GRANT, Thomas HESTER, Timothy HOLLY, T. L. RODGERS, James WILLIAMS. Does anyone have any information concerning the relationship of these two families. Any information on any of the above families would be greatly appreciated.

    1. Re: Jesse Aldridge RS NC to GA
    2. Pam Wilson
    3. Hi, Alvin-- Here's a tentative family tree that I've pieced together so far from census records, etc. and what different people have sent me on your line. I think some possibilities for your John/Jesse are in the Dobbs/Greene CO, NC Aldridge family or the Randolph Co, NC Aldridge family. The Nathaniel Aldridge family that came out of Randolph CO, NC and went to Abbeville Dist, SC. had a son John b. 1761 who has not been accounted for in any of the trees I've seen. His brother Nathaniel Benjamin (b. 1760) had a son named Jesse Washington Aldridge (b 1799), so the Jesse name was in that family. Also, possibly in that same Randolph Co, NC Aldridge family, there are other Jesse's. Thurman Aldridge's tree has a Jesse bc 1755 listed as a son of a William b. 1729. Either there is an additional generation between your Revolutionary War soldier and the father of your Cornelius "Neil" b. 1824, or Elizabeth must have been *much* younger than her husband. There is a good likelihood the father was previously married, so some of the children listed may have been by a wife prior to Elizabeth. Do you have documentation on your John/Jesse as a Revolutionary Soldier? In which militia? Hope this is helpful, Pam > > Descendants of John or Jesse * Aldridge > > > Generation No. 1 > > 1. 2. Laura
    3. Hello.. This is a repeat attempt in hopes that there is a new lister that might be able to help me. I'm trying to find a clue to the parentage of my Great Grandfather William Winston ALDRIDGE. He was born in AR in 1864. His father passed away either right before, or right after his birth. His mother then took him to leave with "Uncle Main (Mane, Mann, ?), according to what he, William, told his son, my Grandfather. I found an A. ALDRIDGE, living with a Wm ALDRIDGE, on the 1870 White Co., Census. They were living in the household of looks like; Samuel MANN and his family. MANN, Samuel (?), 62, Male, Wht, Farmer, VA ", Elizabeth, 17, Fe, Wht, HK, Tenn ", William, 12, Ma, Wht, --, Tenn ", Joel S., 22, Ma, Wht, ?, Tenn ", Elizabeth, 17, Fe, Wht, HK, AR ALDRIDGE, A., 27, Fe Wht, HK, Tenn ALDRIDGE, Wm, 7, Ma, Wht, --, AR According to what William told my Grandfather, his mother died in 1874. My Grandfather said William never spoke much about his parents because they both died so early in his life. This makes a sturdy wall! Does anyone recognize the above family? He was listed as the father on my husband's birth certificate, but my mother-in-law had led my husband to believe Gerald wasn't actually his father. Just wanted to let everyone know that we have located and spoken with Gerald. He is a wonderful man, and I wish he had been my husband's father!! Good luck with all your searches. Cheryl Pauling

In May, we had over 149 million page views (according to Nielsen NetRatings combined home and work statistics), sent over 155 million e-mails, and handled over two million downloads of files from the various archives hosted at RootsWeb. Everyone, take a bow! This is an incredible community of genealogists, and the advances we're all making in our research due to the sharing that occurs here is unprecedented. Bad news: The more popular RootsWeb becomes, the more costly it is to simply stay alive and online. Expenses continue to exceed revenue. We ran up a truly scary loss last year. Without outside help, it's not clear how long we'd be able to go on like this. Good news: MyFamily.com (you may know them better as Ancestry.com) recognizes the importance of the genealogical community that has grown here at RootsWeb, and wants that community to continue to thrive. They're excited to provide the financial stability we need to ensure RootsWeb will be around for years to come. Brian and I are pleased by Ancestry.com's coming involvement with RootsWeb. Now we can all focus on helping each other on the mailing lists and message boards, uploading our GEDCOMs, and building Web pages to share our research. Better news: As a special thank you to those of you who have helped make RootsWeb such a vibrant Internet community, Ancestry.com is making the following offer: You are invited to visit Ancestry.com today and sign up for a FREE 14-day trial with no obligation. You'll gain full access to all 600 million names in more than 2,500 databases. Go to the following address to begin your free trial now: http://ancestry.com/subscribe/subscribetrialx.asp?sourcecode=G11BA <http://ancestry.com/subscribe/subscribetrialx.asp?sourcecode=G11BA> You must activate your FREE trial by July 5, 2000. More good news: No one is going to charge you to use RootsWeb. You'll still find RootsWeb at www.RootsWeb.com. Everything you're used to using will still be here: the 19,000 mailing lists, the hundreds of millions of names in free genealogy databases, the interactive learning guides, the weekly RootsWeb Review and Missing Links, the numerous tools for tracing your family history, the tens of thousands of message boards, the thousands of independently authored web sites. RootsWeb will still support worthy genealogy projects and societies, such as the USGenWeb Project (www.USGenWeb.org), the Immigrant Ships Transcribers Guild (ISTG.rootsweb.com) and the FreeBMD Project (FreeBMD.rootsweb.com), and other groups that provide free genealogical resources. And don't worry, you won't be charged to access RootsWeb. No one will put your data on CD without your permission. Our Privacy Policy (http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/pledge.html) and our Acceptable User Policy (http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/aup.html) are unchanged. Other promises made over the years will continue to be honored. You'll still deal with the same RootsWeb volunteers and employees. In fact, most users won't notice any changes, except exciting new tools, more content, and better genealogical resources. If you would like more information, please check out our official press release at http://www.ancestry.com/home/celebrate/rootsrelease.htm Thanks again for your support! Now, let's go figure out where great-great-grandpa really came from, before that UFO deposited him in rural Indiana in 1848...
