Okay--here's an interesting twist. In the 1850 Marion Co. census (dist 14 pag 153 ln 13 ff), Prince William's wife is "Permelia." In 1860 Walker Co. census, his wife is "Milly." I've seen that Mary Ann COONS marriage from Wilkes Co. NC (18 Feb 1793) and always assumed that it was correct and that Prince William married this "Millie" later on--and I just couldn't find a record for it. If Millie is an Ashley and Ashley was named for her maiden name, that marriage had to occur before 1796 when Ashley was born. I'm still confused by this "Isaac" business. I don't see how one gets "Isaac" out of "Prince William." There is a definite gap in birth ages of children between 1796 and 1800 and between 1800 and 1805 and between 1805 and 1810 and between 1810 and 1816. I'd venture there were some females born in at least some of those years (and possibly some other males). This Bedford Co., Tennessee mention is the first time I've seen Bedford mentioned. I'll have to check out what I can find. I have some relatives from another line in that county around that time too. Thanks, Calista and Lori. My quandary--did Prince William Aldridge and his wife Mary Ann Coons have *any* daughters? I have records of a Rhoda/Rhody Aldridge or Arledge who doesn't fit into any of the known ARLEDGE families. Various sources say she was born 13 Oct 1803 around Bedford Co, TN and married Joseph Allen in 1821 in Bedford CO, TN. A daughter was married in Walker CO AL in 1844. In 1850 they were living in Walker Co, AL and they perhaps also lived in Fayette Co, AL before migrating to Bossier Parish, LA in the early 1850s. Her location puts her squarely in the territory of the Prince William and Isham families, and her date of birth makes her a candidate to be Prince William's daughter. Her children are named Martha, Patience, Mary Ann, Elizabeth, John, William, Benjamin, Joseph, James (not necessarily in that order). So--she also had children named William and Mary Ann, which would add more weight to the argument that she may have been their daughter. Another intriguing detail--Warren Baker, a descendant of Rhoda's, claims that her father was named Isaac Aldridge/Arledge and her mother was a Millie Ashley. I can't find any couples to fit these criteria. However, I wondered about the origin of Prince William's son Ashley Aldridge's first name--could there be a grandmother who was an Ashley in this family? Thanks to anyone if you can help! Here's a little of what I know. Prince William Aldridge is in Mississippi Territory Census of 1816. Of course, that was around Madison Co. (Huntsville), Alabama. His brother Isham is in nearby Morgan Co. roughly the same time and married his second wife there in 1822. I know there is an Elizabeth Aldridge who married a Howell Gray in Morgan Co. in 1823. I can't prove it but I suspect she might be a daughter of one of them, probably Isham. There is a Felix Aldridge who married in Madison Co. in 1817. I suspect he's a son of Prince William, but again, I can't prove it. I don't know for sure, but Prince William MAY be the William of the 1800 Surry Co., NC census (1 male under 10, 3 females under 10, 1 male 26-45, 1 female 26-45). I can't prove this, and his being there would contradict a fairly consistent birthplace in census records for Ashley having been born in Tennessee. The problem is that I have no idea in what part of Tennessee this might be. Although there is a William in Anderson Co., Tenn. on an 1805 tax list, I'm not sure this is ours. There's also a Henry Aldridge on that list. I've seen Aldridge listed early on in Knox, Blount, and Anderson Counties, but I haven't connected any of them with my line. Does anyone know if Prince William Aldridge and Mary Ann Coons had any daughters? I only have sons listed for them (Ashley, William, John, James, Elijah, Abram). I have an Aldridge woman born c. 1803 who looks like she might belong in this family based on the counties and locations we have found her in. I'd like more thorough information on the Prince William Aldridge family if anyone has it. Any census records for 1800, 1810, 1820 would be most helpful. Thanks! Hello, everyone! I have recently gone through my files and folders, piece by piece, to try to find email addresses for as many of the ARLEDGE researchers I've corresponded with, and have used this information to update the Directory of Arledge and Aldridge Researchers on the Arledge Family History Project web page. This page can be found on the web at: http://www.geocities.com/wilson_pam/ARLADDRESS.html I'm amazed at how many researchers and online descendants we have, and I've done my best to indicate the lines and branches each person represents so that you can locate people who have shared research interests. Unfortunately, because of the overwhelming number of ARLEDGE researchers, I haven't been able to keep up with my original intention of listing all ALDRIDGE, ALLDREDGE, ALLRED researchers as well. At this point, I can only focus on adding ARLEDGE researchers, though there are many ALDRIDGE and ALLRED folks listed there as well, so please take a look. ARLEDGE researchers and other interested descendants are grouped and clustered according to the branch they represent. You will be amazed. If anyone sees email addresses or other information on this page that needs to be corrected, or if you would like to be added, please send me the complete information so I can add you. I know that some of these older email addresses no longer work, but I don't have current email addresses for everyone. If you know of someone who has updated their email, please let me know. Thanks to all of you who have generously shared your time, research efforts, and resources to make the Arledge Family History Project a reality. There are literally hundreds of us, as this list will attest. Please continue to send me new information on Arledge descendants as you find it. I am trying to keep the database on the World Connect page updated at least quarterly. I'm still way behind on updating web page information, and will need to wait for an extended vacation to find time for that. Maybe over the holidays I can make a dent in it. If you've sent me new photos or info that are not up yet, please send me a quick note to remind me, and I'll get that all together. Thanks! Pam and Aldridge researchers: I was very glad to see some information concerning the Aldridge family of Randolph Co., NC. I have a couple of comments, don't know if they will help sort out these families. My gg-grandmother was Sophia Kivett, daughter of John A. Kivett and Rosannah Aldridge Rosannah was the daughter of William Ezekiel Aldridge and wife Elizabeth ??. After that I am not sure. You mentioned that you weren't sure who were William's parents. Either William & Elizabeth (Symons) Aldridge or James & Mary (Gassaway) Aldridge. >From different sources I have found James & Mary's marriage date as 25 Feb 1761, either that date is incorrect or this was a second marriage for James or these were not William's parents. In your information you showed a second marriage for Rosannah Aldridge to David Bower in 1811. In John's will in 1843, he mentions his beloved wife Rosannah, so I don't think she is the same Rosannah Aldridge that married David Bower. I have the oldest child of Rosannah and John Kivett being born before 1793, but I don't have any proof. Here is a copy of John Kivett's will. Book 7, p. 480. Will of John Kivett In the name of God Amen I John Kivet of the county of Randolph and State of North Carolina being in good health and sound memory Blessed be god this Fifth day of December and in the year of our lord one thousand and eight hundred and twenty Nine do make and publish this my last will and Testament in the manner and form Following that is to Say first for all of my just Debts to be paid I give and devise unto my Son Henry Kivett One dollar and allso I give and devise unto my Son John Kivet one dollar and I give and devise unto my Son William Kivet one dollar I give and devise unto my Daughter Elizabeth York one dollar I give and devise unto my Daughter Rosanner Kivet one dollar I give and devise unto my Daughter Mary McDaniel one dollar and I give and devise unto my daughter Nancy York one dollar and Allso I give and devise unto my Daughter Sophia Yorke one dollar I give and devise unto my Son Nathan all my land that is to Say the tract I now live on and the new entery in the hills adjoining Henry Routh land and allso I give and devise to my Beloved wife Rossanner Kivet and my son Nathan the wrest of all my stock of Every Description and all my estate and moveable property to be Euqally divided between them boath- I make and ordain my son henry Kivet and Nathan Kivet to be my Executors of this my Last will into for the intent and purpose in this will Contained in witness whereof I the Said John Kivet have here unto set my hand and affixed my Seal this day and year above written. Dear Pam; I read your list of Aldridges with interest...I also have some Aldridges in my line; however, they are from Pittsburgh, Pa. The ones in recent posts seem mainly to have come from the southern states. Does anyone know of a branch that came from Pa ? The 1910 census in Pa shows my THomas Alldride with family... Sarah (Trickett?) wife Children... Pearl THomas Raymond Grace Henrietta(Churm?) They lived at 279 Forward Ave, in Pittsburgh, Pa. Thanks for any help you cam give...Jane
Dear Aldridge, Alldredge and Allred researchers, I need your help on this one. I've been gathering information for several years now, in bits and pieces, on the Aldridge and Arledge families of Randolph Co, NC and surrounding counties. Since my father's family is from Person Co, NC, I've also found some documents about Aldridges in Person and Caswell Counties. I've tried to take what I've found and piece together this family in my database. This is cobbled together from MANY sources, some more reliable than others. I don't publish any of this on the web, since it's only a secondary research interest of mine. However, people do frequently write me to request information, and so I want to make sure that what I have is as accurate as possible. I'd like to ask you to look over the MODEL I propose below for the children and grandchildren of William ALDRIDGE/ALLRED/ALLDREDGE/ALLRIDGE and Elizabeth Symons of Randolph County, NC. If you have information or documentation that confirms or negates any of this, please let me know. If you have more specific dates for these people, *please* let me know. Some of this is newly-connected (that is, I don't think it's come from any published sources--such as the connection of Joseph Aldridge of Caswell/Person County as a son of William and Elizabeth), and some has been passed around for a long time. Of course, having been passed around, or even published, doesn't necessarily mean it's correct. I'd really like to get this one family in particular straightened out, since they are linked to, and ancestors of some branches of, the ALDRIDGE, ALLDREDGE, ALLRED and ARLEDGE families. (e.g. Balaam Allridge's daughter Betsey married Henry William ARLEDGE, so she is the ancestress to a large branch of the ARLEDGE family in TN and TX and beyond). By the way, "HOH" stands for Head of Household in census reports. I'd really appreciate your feedback on any of this, and would like to build a stronger body of documentation for each of these relationships. Thanks in advance for your help. *Please* keep in mind that this model may contain errors, so please DO NOT ACCEPT IT ALL AS FACT until we have more proof. However, it's a place to start talking. Thanks! This is very valuable information about the children of Nathan and Hannah's son James ALDREDGE (1785-1859) and his wife Anna WOOD (1791-1854): these included Joseph, Elizabeth, John Calvin, Sarah (m. Azariah/Amariah Mullen), Julia Ann (m. John Thomas), William E., and Mary Wood. The records I had received did not indicate that several of them had left Carroll Co, IN and gone to Story Co, IA, so this is really helpful to know. Since this is not the family I personally research, I'm sending this out to the Arledge/Aldridge research list, as well as to the ALDRIDGE-L list (rootsweb.com). You may want to join both of these Can anyone help Heather? Her email is HQuail@aol.com. Please also send a copy of your reply to this list (arledge@tx3.com). Thanks! I got most of my information on this branch from Thurman Aldridge <aldridgete@aol.com>. Another very helpful and knowledgeable person is Jeanie Knight <knight@elite.net>. They both have trees on Clay Fulcher's Aldridge web site <http://www.tx3.com//~arledge>. Also, Heather, be sure to get in touch with Suzanne Alldredge Evans <suzy@appletreephoto.com> who is also researching the Nathan Alldredge family. She says that Nathan was the won of William Aldridge and Elizabeth Symons. There are a huge number of researchers working on the descendants of William and Elizabeth (of Randolph Co, NC), so you should be able to exchange some valuable information with some of them. I know that there were two William Aldridges about this same age who lived in that part of NC are often confused. Here is a quote from Franklin R. Aldridge's Aldridge Papers, Vol 2. Franklin R. Aldridge was a man who did exhaustive combing of records throughout eastern and southeastern US looking for Aldridges, Alldredges, Arledges, etc. Some of his conclusions have been more recently found to be in error, but his work is one of the primary published sources on the Aldridge (etc) family history: > FR Aldridge Volume 2 says : The family > of Aldridges that settled in Randolph were perhaps children of one > William, who came there from Maryland, the same in 1755 tax list of > Orange. His sons were perhaps William, Nathaniel, Joseph, Nathan and > others. As previously mentioned, William, born 1702, and James, born > 1706, sons of Nicholas and Martha of Anne Arundel Co, Maryland, did > travel from Maryland to North Carolina at a very early date. One William > Aldridge with wife Elizabeth died in Randolph Co.in 1789, leaving a will > naming his children. His sons Ezekiel, John and Samuel went to Posey > County, Indiania. Nathaniel went to South Carolina, Nathan died in Knox > County, Tennessee. Joseph probably died in Orange. Ben Alldredge <jballdredge@olympus.net> has also done extensive research on the various William ALDRIDGE/ALLDREDGE/ALLREDs of Randolph County, NC. He recommended Memory Aldridge Lester's 1957 Alldredge book for a William Aldridge-Aldred "with the exception that she gave page 328. A record search revealed that the cited Book & Page numbers ARE NOT Orange County Deed Book references. The search also revealed that many of the early Granville Grants are not in the NC Archives (none of the Granville Grants cited in Memory Lester's book were found). What follows is from secondary sources." You may find the folllowing information sent by Ben Alldredge to be helpful: > > William D. Bennett, "ORANGE COUNTY RECORDS, VOL. V, GRANVILLE PROPRIETARY > LAND OFFICE, DEEDS & SURVEYS, 1752-1760" (1989), page 62: > > "183. 13 Nov 1756, WILLIAM ALDRIDGE, planter, ten shillings, on a branch > of Sandy Cr. waters of Deep R. called Mount Pleasant, begin at a hickory > in HARMAN HUSBAND's line, W 46 ch. to the center of a white oak & a black > jack oak, S 45 ch. to a WO, E 65 ch. to a black jack oak on a hill, N 27 > ch. to a white oak in HUSBAND's line near the creek, along HUSBAND's line > W 20 ch. to his cor., so along his line N 18 ch. to first station, 256 > acres, ten shillings three pence per year rent. I know that there are a lot of people on the two Aldridge lists who can help you as well. The Randolph County NC information, as far as I know, is still unresolved about which William is which, but it seems sure that one of the Williams was Nathan's father! I'd be interested in hearing more from anyone who has more recent information on this. Thanks! Over a year ago a man named Clay sent you my email and you in turn sent me the descendants of Nathan Aldridge because I was looking for Clement Wood Alldredge. You and I suspected that I might have come from the Hannah (Aldridge) and Clemet Wood line. I kept the email eventhough I could not prove my relation to Nathan Aldridge. I believe I can now prove it. While looking at the 1860 census for Story Co. Iowa, I found Clement Wood Alldredge (C.W. my gg grandfather) as a 6 year old. His father's name was J.C. Aldredge (the enumerator spelled it with only one L). Also listed was William E. Aldredge and a family named Meullen. They are listed as the following "families numbered in order of visitation": Line # 27, family 512 William E. Aldredge b. TN wife, Martha? Line# 32, family 513 Amarich Meullen b. KY wife, Sarah b. TN *Line 40 same family last child listed at Joseph Aldredge age 4 Next page Line #2 family 514 J. C. Aldredge b. TN wife Nancy Children: Joseph J. 17 M C.K. 16 M John S. 14 M M.or W. E. 12 M Meary? C. 10 F Clement W. 6 M Amariah 2 (smudged) After reading this I figured J.T., Sarah and William E. where siblings, all being born in TN and with Sarah having a child named Aldridge living with her. So I looked back to your email to see if I could find any one who was listed with the Nathan descendants who could fit the "J.C." initials. I found John Calvin Aldridge son of James and Anna Wood! I also found J.T.'s siblings, William E. and Sarah (Aldridge) Mullen! I am wondering if there is anything (published or not) on Nathan Aldridge. >From your email his birth is written at abt. 1739 in NC. Do we know where they came from? My grandmother is very interested in finding out what nationality she is for sure. Do you know anyone who would be interested in knowing about the children of James and Anna (Wood) Aldridge? Let me know what you think and thanks so much for the email, Heather --------------355F69D994E50B26054EA290--

Hi Vickie and all Aldridge list members, I have a lost an Aldredge ancestor (yes, that's the way the name was spelled, at least in the 20th century). He is the father of James Lester Aldredge, who was the son of Margaret Henrietta M. LESTER and her first husband __?___ ALDREDGE. Could anyone out there help me with a lookup in your records to see if either James Lester or Margaret Henrietta M. Lester Aldredge appears. I would really like to know the name of James' father. James was born in Georgia (presumably in Jones County) in 1847. His mother remarried Boling G. Morris circa 1855. I don't know what happened to her "Aldredge" first husband, but he seems to have been out of the picture by the 1850 census. She and __?__ had 3 children: James Lester, Marilla Elizabeth, and Barnett Aldredge, all born between 1840-1849. I've tried many avenues to trace this ancestor with no luck so far. Thanks so much for any help. Can anyone help Carol? Her addy is at the bottom of the message.... ************************************************ I am looking for Margaret Ann Aldridge, born Mar 10 1859, in Cass County Missouri. She died Jul 3 1937 in Royce City, TX. Buried in Poetry, TX. She was married to John Lamuel Bratten in Cave City Arkansas on Aug 6, 1879. We think her father was Absolam B. Aldridge but we have never been totally sure. She is my husbands great grandmother. We know they lived in and around the Cave City, Arkansas area for about 10 years before moving to Texas. We went to Batesville and got a copy of their marriage certificate. Not much help. If she is in fact the daughter of Absolam then there is information on the web about them. If not we are stuck where we have been for 15 years. Information on him is even harder to find. Any information would be appreciated.
