Hi Everyone! I have the following my mother found in 1982 in the Genealogy New England, Vol 1, page 234. "The family of Aldrich in this country was founded by George Aldrich of Braintree and Mendon Mass., and Henry Aldrich of Dedham same colony who was presumable a brother of George. The latter came from Devonshire, England in 1631 arriving on Mass. coast, Nov 6 and settled at Darchester, whence he removed to Braintree. He was among the pioneer settlers of Mendon, Mass. in 1633 and spent the rest of his life there. Henry Aldrich died in Dedham, Mass. in 1645 leaving a son Samuel and other sons. Most of the members of this family were Quakers, they were ignored in the Puritan records and very little can be found concerning them. There is a mention of a Benjamin Aldrich (decendant of Henry) in Braintree in 1651, he may have been the grand father of a Benjamin with whose name the line here-in traced must begin, but all circumstances go to indicate that he was more probably decended from Henry of Dedham. A Thomas Aldrich lived in Dedham where he married (1) 1675 (2) 1678. I Benjamin Aldrich born abt 1694 in Walpol, Mass. was one of the grantees of Westmorland, N.H. to which he removed in 1749, died 1763, married in Bridgewater, Mass. 1742 to Mary Shaw. They had ten children: Mary 1725; Caleb mentioned below; Elizabeth 1732; Benjamin 1734; luke 1736; George 1738; Ebenzeer 1740; Joel 1743; Sarah 1749; and Susannah 1727. II Caleb, oldest son of Benjamin and Mary (Shaw) Aldrich, born 1730 at Walpol, resided in Weymouth, Mass. 1755 - 1758. The next ten years were spent in Abington, Mass. In 1788 settled in Westmoreland until his death. His farm was in the Eastern part of town and was sucessively owned by son Niles, grandson Niles, and ggrandson Allen Aldrich. He married in Weymouth 1755. III Deborah, daughter of caleb and Deborah (Niles) Aldrich was born 1750 in Abington, became wife of Nathaniel Wilber of Westnmorland." Searched by Mildred (Henshaw, Avery, Aldrich) Allen, 1982 I typed this exactly as my mother typed it. However, I think there may be a typo. The marriage date for for Benjamin Aldrich and Mary Shaw is probably not 1742 as they would have been married after most of their children were born. The correct date is probably around 1722. If the date is correct @ 1742, then this would be the second marriage of Benjamin Aldrich. And The Plot Thickens.
